ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The tight Minnesota U.S. Senate race between Republican incumbent Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken has become incredibly close -- with Coleman clinging to a two-vote lead.
That's the latest tally after the state Canvassing Board spent a third day ruling on disputed ballots. There are hundreds of challenges yet to decide, as well as thousands of withdrawn challenges that have yet to be tallied.
Coleman had entered Thursday's session leading Franken by 360 votes. But that lead eroded all day as the board considered a pile of challenges brought entirely by the Coleman campaign. The pile included a big chunk of withdrawn challenges, many of which went quickly to Franken's column.

I agree with everything you said.
Yup,
and we don’t even at least cry “foul!”
I agree....one would have hoped that more of that generation would have become conservative when they got out of their twenties.
Its ok to be goofy when you’re young..but the hilarious part is I HAD friends of that generation who were living the good life of capitalism and freedom and spouting their old socialist, commie crap at their cocktail parties.
I would agree, they all look like votes for Franken. I watched about 10 minutes of the ballot reviews this morning, and I did hear one of the panel refer to a set of guidelines they were using to determine if there was an overvote or not.
While I was watching, I did see them rejecting a ballot (challenged by Franken) as an overvote — they couldn’t determine if the X was over or under the filled in circle for Franken. They also rejected one Franken vote where X’s were used everywhere else but there was just a single line in Franken’s bubble. So it looks to me that they were at least trying to get it right.
And with the army of volunteers both candidates employed to watch and review every step of the process from voting through the recount, I doubt there was much chance for fraud. Unlike many of the doomsayers here, I’ve actually been quite impressed by the transparency and fairness of the process. If Coleman loses, it will be tough, but as you say, it will be the fault of those who decided not to vote for him on election day.
I pretty much feel the same way.
Glad I’m not in the Army anymore, because I don’t think I could stomach putting my life on the line for people who would behave this way.
It’s the latest thing in vote counting. Keep counting until the Democrat wins. Al Gore couldn’t pull it off, but they tried.
Now we will have a so-called comedian in the Senate. It doesn’t matter that he isn’t funny, because the rest of the Senate isn’t good at anything, either. It’s sad to see how far our government has declined. With a Federal government like this, the decline of the rest of the country has to follow.
devolve did you see this? I am so sick of this bull and how it goes on and on. Franken is slime.
Mn is a joke. Its almost Christmas and they can’t count an election. They need the time to steal an election not count one.
I know. We all know they’ve been working their hardest to steal it all this time. I guess I still live in a place that wouldn’t let this happen - yet!
Should never have gotten close enough for a recount in the first place. I mean, this is Al Franken we’re talking about. He’s an idiot. That many people voted for an idiot. It’s not the candidates, it’s the voters.
Don’t expect anything from the Attorney General. Lori Swanson’s an absolute DFL syncophant, a Mike Hatch protege. She’s had an ongoing lovefest with ACORN and is just another symptom of the problem.
After what Gore the whore did i knew this was coming.
..
Yup - I see it
Don’t forget what that radical nutcase Prosecutor in Texas did to Tom DeLay
I’d say boycott these damned leftie stats bigtime - Defund the idiots
When the citizens start hurting in the wallet they will shape up or move or starve!
I refuse to buy or sell anything to anyone in Massachusetts and have no interest in dealing with anyone in Illinois
-
Juan McChurcian had no coattails!
Well - i guess he did - negative coattails!
I thought they were done counting a few weeks ago?!! Oh yeah Coleman was still ahead. Time to keep counting until Franken wins!

Honestly, I’ve been so busy and away from the forum lately that I probably thought this was over with.
You keep up with it all. I wonder if the pubs are raising an uproar about this, or checking the votes to see if any of their dead relatives voted for Franken.
They all look like good Franken votes.
I thought the other poster chose his screen name to represent Theodore Roosevelt. So, rather than bashing Pres. Bush, I was merely pointing out that liberalism in government goes back to his idol.
Yes, but when those ballots show the same markings for Coleman, the board rejects them.
