Did they get the required 2/3 (or whatever supermajority it is) vote to increase taxes, or are they trying to sneak it through by calling taxes fees?

Replacing a tax with a “fee”. Nice little word game. I’m going to change the name of my AR-15 to “Kind Little Boy” and take it with me where ever I go. Lincoln once said something to the effect that calling a cow’s tale a leg doesn’t make it a leg. We have the same issue here. An honest California court would slap this down in a second. But . . .

Gas has gone up about 15-20 cents the last few days. I'm not sure what's up with that but I can see politicians not wanting to give us a break and adding a huge fee.

Both houses of the California legislature have approved the measure to raise income and sales taxes and replace the gas tax with a "gas fee." "Approved"? Would that mean passed? As in 2/3 or was it only a simple majority?

Has it ever occurred to politicians - that a cut in their personal salaries and perks might go a long way to giving them credibility among the masses or do they give a d**n?
If they are going to impose extra fees and charges in our lives, they should also make a move to show so partisanship and cooperation with the general population....
...they aren’t above the financial mess they occasioned.
Time to pay up themselves.

Did they get the required 2/3 (or whatever supermajority it is) vote to increase taxes, or are they trying to sneak it through by calling taxes fees? Nope. Since it's a "fee," they needed only a simple majority. They claim that raising income and sales taxes, and eliminating the gas tax are revenue neutral, so that vote required a simple majority. Adding the "gas fee" also required a simple majority.

This is what our lovely Gov here in Colorado is trying to do. Pass fees instead of taxes since they are not suppose to raise our taxes without approval from us

I think they called it a fee because as such they could do so without Rep. support.
