SPRINGFIELD, Ill. A lawyer for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich told state lawmakers Thursday that the federal wiretaps at the heart of the pay-to-play allegations against his client were illegally obtained, and therefore should be kept out of any impeachment proceedings. The wiretaps are crucial to the federal charges filed against Blagojevich last week. Prosecutors say they caught the Democratic governor discussing efforts to auction off Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat and pressure a hospital executive for campaign donations.
Genson told the impeachment committee that it shouldn't consider any material from the wiretaps, saying the evidence was "illegally obtained."

Wat?
It means that Fitz *can* try him in federal court but no one can in a state court so therefore any ‘impeachmeant’ on these grounds is hard if not impossible.
Exactly. What else is Blago’s lawyer going to say?
He has to either get evidence thrown out or sets up a squeal deal for Blago.
Those are his choices.
Wonder how much that will cost him?
Fitz was and remains 100% legit and 100% by-the-book on this one. Wiretaps are pretty specific; he had to know and clearly state what it was that he was going after when he sought the go-ahead. Permission granted.
Meanwhile, some rear-echelon pencil pusher typist in an office somewhere gets paid a “visit.” A transcription error here; a “t” not crossed, an “i” not dotted there; a date, name or location transposed—simple clerical errors but enough to be a case-twisting “technicality” IF needed (wink and nudge).
Fitz baits and sets his trap. The rat he's after waltzes in just as expected, but he has brought other rats along with him. Seeing the windfall for what it is, Fitz does not spring the trap; he lets the rats eat the cheese and leave.
Fitz gets some helpers and more traps figuring he'll get all the rats next time. He sets and baits the traps, and ducks around the corner. When he looks around the corner he sees not the rat(s) he expected but a big FAT SKUNK about to take the bait—NOT the rat, a skunk and it's a BIG one.
This is where someone makes a racket to alert and drive off the skunk before he ends up in the trap. No one wants to deal with extricating a skunk from a trap and all that comes with it.
To the point, Fitz either caught or was about to catch someone much larger than he was after. The tap was abruptly pulled, the investigation brought to a screeching halt, and here we are.
Any goings on in court are distractions, diversions, and insurance for whatever/whomever it was that Fitz almost had—and it was NOT Blago.
Interesting monochromatic ethnic analogy.
Yikes. Did not see that one.
Skunks have always been a problem for me: I never know if it’s white on black or black on white. I mean, the experts tell us one thing, but how can one ever know for sure?
If Blago gets away with a surname misspelling on the wiretap warrant, I am changing my name to:

Okay, Dems, for years you have beat us about the head and neck with Nixon.
Now your guy is proven to be far more corrupt, venal and ruthless, and he wasn’t previously inoculated by a sex scandal.
So it’s our turn to talk about the Culture of Corruption. Soon, counting Spitzer, you’ll have had two governors in as many years run out of town for severe moral lapses.
Hee hee....you just keep digging yourself in deeper and deeper. I'm laffin me arse off.
Interesting.
So the Courts are co-opted in Illinois as well? hmmm.
The Land of Lincoln should be proud. They really look after their own, it seems, if true.
Your cynicism is merited but this is not standard Chicago corruption. Do you know of ANY sitting governor who was lead out of his house in handcuffs? Not just in Illinois but in the entire country? Civil war shenanigans don’t count I mean criminal charges.
This is killing our beloved Rats and they have no good way out. If Blow J stays it will inviserate them and, if he goes, they get Murphy whom they hate because he is an idealist not subject to their normal methods of corruption.
No, we insist our courrupt pols have a veil of respectibility.
Actually the courts are much better than they have been after another series of wiretaps and other electronic surveilance sent scores of judges, cops, sheriff deputies, court personnel and lawyers to jail. Operation Greylord put a big crimp in the buying and selling of justice. Operation Gambit involved bugging the table that Pat Marcy and John D’Arco, the powers in the First Ward (the Outfit’s guys) sat at to plan the corruption necessary for the Outfit to continue to loot the Region.
This destroyed the power of the First Ward from which the city had been ruled since the days of Hinky Dink, Bathhouse John and the Grey Wolves.
All of this chaos because a scores of judges, cops, sheriff deputies, court personnel and lawyers were sent to jail.
What's a crook to do?
;~)
Okay. Now we know the tapes of the phone calls are devastating.
That’s the only message you can take away from a lawyer looking for loopholes.
If the evidence will kill you, kill the evidence.
Well, at least Blagojevich can run for Senator in New York.
it is insane if true.
