CBS’s Chen: Leave Caroline Kennedy Alone, Criticism ‘Unfair’

On Thursday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Julie Chen came to the defense of would-be New York Senator Caroline Kennedy, who has faced criticism for her lack of experience: "This is so unfair. I mean, look, the system is set up the way it's set up and Governor Paterson decides and that's it. Leave her alone, everyone." That comment followed a report by correspondent Meg Oliver, in which Kennedy avoided tough questions from the press: "She quickly got a taste of the pressure that comes with seeking a high-profile political office...questions mostly went unanswered."

Chen was not so quick to defend Sarah Palin from critics during the campaign.

MAN C: What makes you think you can represent upstate?

KENNEDY: Well, as I -- first of all, this was a great visit and I've already learned a lot and I would want to come back-

... and I can see upstate from my house!

So Chen is upset that people are sniping at Caroline as a silly airhead who would be out of her depth in an important position? Me think Chen doth protest to much . . . .

We always used that term for anyone above Westchester County.

LMAO! I really am from upstate, and there's plenty north of Westchester that will always be downstate to me! It always made me laugh when people in NYC would call Ossining, Nyack, etc. "upstate."

There’s a video released recently by RNC showing O discussing supporting Blago for governor.

When asked by the reporter if he’s going to support Blago Obama says.......youbetcha.

Now where did we hear that before, and how many of the msm bashed Sarah for using that expression.

Oh the hypocrisy is breathtaking.

What’s offensive about “upstate”?

When it's uttered by a NYCer trying to curry favor among those strange and exotic foreigners in Buffalo.

From October 27, 2008

Consider the "story" that this dumb bimbo did on Palin shopping at a consignment store:

Chen throughly interrogated Arvold (store owner): "So how long has Governor Palin shopped at your store?...What does she usually buy at your store? And does she also shop for her entire family there?...And, Ellen, what is the price range of your women's wear?...And how much does Governor Palin typically spend at your store?...And would you say your clothes look much different than what we've been seeing her wear on the campaign trail?"

Asking questions about Palin's shopping habits at a clothes store is RELEVANT AND IMPORTANT but questioning a Kennedy's lack of office-holding experience is not.

She’s had her eyelids done and a nose job, for starters.

Look, I’m sick of all the Kennedys and the Bushes too, but lets remember that the morons in Washington now all have experience and they have f***** us from stem to stern. Someone without Washington experience would be refreshing,...I mean it’s going to be a DemonRat anyway, who cares!

I went to www.cbsnews.com but could not find any contact info.

This woman needs to be email-bombed with comments comparing Palin's treatment vs. Kennedy's.

I came from Orange/Dutchess County and consider myself to be from ‘upstate New York’.
Although I was born in The Bronx but that was just because I wanted to be near my mother at the time....

Whatever happened to the direct election of Senators?

Seventeenth Amendment - “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

“When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.”

It seems like elections are called for, at some point in time. Sooner is better than later.

I heard a Kennedy sycophant say the Princess is a mother, as another qualification for Her Highness to be appointed to the seat.

Mrs. Schlossberg, herself, listed that as one of her qualifications.

I guess in America families that have been in politics for generations think they are like royalty in Europe. Just because they have the name they think they deserve to be in power.
