The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday with 3 to 6 inches of snow possible, even in the lowest levels of the Las Vegas Valley, including the Strip.
Snow was falling this afternoon in much of the Las Vegas Valley. Forecasters said heavy snow is possible in the valley and desert areas of Clark, Lincoln and southern Nye counties.
An advisory from the weather service this afternoon called the snow event "extremely rare."
Forecasters said snow will continue to fall through the afternoon before tapering off Thursday morning. Up to 10 inches is possible along the foothills above 2,500 feet in elevation.

It’s 47 degrees here in Southern California right now. The 15 freeway going to Vegas(including Barstow and Lancaster) are closed due to snow. DAMN GLOBAL WARMING LOL
Absolute proof of AGW
We’re looking at significant ice for tomorrow here in extreme southern Michigan. Big snow up north.
As one “journalist” put it - the cooling is proof of global warming. (??? huh?) Seems to me it is proof of... WINTER! LOL
I have 4” here in Henderson
95 and Wagonwheel
You and the boy getting ready to build a snowman?
Is that including yesterday too or just today?
Yeah, we got about 3-4 inches yesterday, north of Detroit. Of course now that they’re cutting back on plowing and salting, it was a bit more of a challenge than usual. Better this afternoon though. Guess it’ll be a white Christmas.
The snow we had last night made a mess of our all ready treacherous school bus route -- not only did the bus get stuck TWICE, it was hit by a truck sliding through an intersection!
You bet I'll be watching this next one closely. If the weather is too bad I won't send my daughter whether school is closed or not.
today
I’ll be in Vegas for CES next month - sure hope it gets warmer by then!
We have 6 inches so far today on the eastern side of Washington State and it is still coming down. We expect a foot by tomorrow morning. Dang that global warming!
I’ll have to call my sister. She’s near S. Pecos and Pebble Rd.
Snowed out here yesterday, NW, pretty heavy at times too. Stuck to the cars and grass but not the streets.
It wasn’t too bad down here near Jackson. We got a few inches last night but the roads were clear by the time I got out.
I did run out and get 5 gallons of kerosene and 5 gallons of gas for the generator today, just in case.
Like Bush or hate him....he sure can duck 'em
