Quite a story.

I admit I skimmed, I saw all kinds of feely touch things about the artist, and zero info on the attacker. I’m guessing that the “whatever endowments for whatever” are doing a fund drive.

And yes I am a cynic.

Yeah, OK. I, too, am I survivor. I was stabbed 48 times and hacked once in the face with a machete back in 2004. I now have two beautiful twins, 1 boy, 1 girl, 21 months old, and I wouldn’t change a thing in my life.

I still have many scars and I still have a significant loss of feeling in my face and hands, mostly from surgery.

I need someone to help me write a book about my life. A biographer. I’m not skilled enough to do my own story, as I work in a technical field and I would bore readers with factual details (in other words, you’d be reading a schematic-not enjoyable)

If any of you know someone that would be interested, please shout back. Thanks.

Is that a true story? How horrible. I hope justice was served. Congratulations on your growing family.

Mark testified before congress in 1998. They finally caught the attacker. He is in prison now, getting out in about six years. If you google his name more info can be obtained.

Yes. I don’t tell it often, and my wife was told by victims services in my county to avoid the press. Hence, only a select few know my story. I would very much like to write a book, as this is just a small part of my unusual life!

If you know a writer that would take an interest in writing a bio on me, please let me know. I don’t have the discipline to sit down for hours/days at a time to write a book. Sheer agony for an ADDer!

If you come to Southern Utah in late spring, we will be able to spend some time discussing the approach to take regarding your story. Artists of all stripes come here for retreats. While the primary mission for the retreats is for painters and photographers, many writers come as well. Nabakov wrote Lolita here in the fifties.

I may take you up on that. I’m taking a state exam in Nevada. A stopover in Utah shouldn’t be too hard!

I surfed it and found this:

“The man who attacked Mark Bangerter in April did so because he thought Bangerter was gay. The 47-year-old oil painter, who is straight, had just finished hugging a friend good-bye at a local bar when a stranger called him “faggot” and punched him in the forehead before storming out.

When Bangerter left the bar a few minutes later, the same man grabbed him and pinned his neck to the sidewalk. The bar owner chased the attacker away, but he then went to the building where Bangerter lived. When Bangerter arrived, the man knocked the artist out cold.

Witnesses say he kicked Bangerter’s head repeatedly against the concrete curb before he fled. The blows broke several bones in Bangerter’s face and permanently damaged an optic nerve, destroying the vision in his left eye”

Maybe Joe the Plumber’s co-author could help. No doubt he did all the writing for Joe’s book.

Personally, I think your nickname around here ought to be 'Terminator'. If you lived through that savage attack, it's going to take a cauldron of molten steel to defeat you.

I'd also never convict you in court of any crime if you scoured all four corners of the Earth seeking justice from your assailant(s). I wouldn't care what you did or how long it took.

I’m flattered KG (blush). What you’ll find more amazing is that I’m not particularly big, but I’m stout. 5’6” tall, 185 lbs of just plain refusal to relent! ;-)

Ditto. I can’t say it any better than The KG9 Kid said it.

I hope you find a writer to put your story into a book.

Great story Bing.

I thought perhaps the whole “hate” thing might backfire here on FR, but this story is a great example of stick-to-it-ness, and the power to overcome odds.

Only a conservative at heart would have such an attitude about overcoming adversity!

Life can be a real big kick in the nuts sometimes. I admire anyone who will stand up and kick back, including this artist and our FRiend prismsinc.

Considering I am in a Christian men’s group where we do a lot of hugging, it can be a concern. We aren’t talking artists here. We are talking Jethro and Little Abner looking guys straight out of the hills. Hugging is like an extension of football to these guys. You grab someone in a squeeze and start banging away with your hand.

But you always check for prison tats first. They sometimes don’t play that hugging game.
