“As far as I can discover there is no relation between them and Jr.”

Sure, there is!

“In June, 1959, at the age of 23, Obama Sr. became the first African student enrolled at the University of Hawaii...
at Manoa.”

“On Sept 26,1960, Stanley Ann began classes at the University of Hawaii, and began an intimate relationship with Barack Obama Sr. almost immediately.”

source: http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaFamily.htm

Don’t you see the connection?
Both Obama parents were students at the university
where Prof. Lefforge taught!
Perhaps, they were even his students!
(does anyone know if he taught Russian?)

Of course, that also provides the possibility that Lefforge took them in....
or, rented them a room...
or even, perhaps had taken pity on a very pregnant young student, whose “husband” had left all alone, having returned to his home country...and his other wife.

Maybe, Orland and Thelma were just helping the girl out.
Perhaps, there had even been some hint that she’d be giving the baby up...or worse.
Perhaps, the Lefforge’s were considering taking the child.

Heck! I don’t know!

But, you must admit....when you think about it, there are
many possibilities.

So, where’s our detective minds, eh?

Orland Lefforge had a Phd in Speech as in debate and was the debate coach at UH before he returned to University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1950 to work on his Phd which he received in 1953.I did contact UH to ask when he returned to teach there but never received a reply, although I do know that by 1968 he was in Washington D.C. as an aide to Sen. Inouye. I thought of the possibility of the Lefforge’s considering adopting Jr but the announcement in the papers negates that theory. Also Obama Sr at that time was living at 625 11th Ave. in the St. Louis Heights area of Oahu which was less than 1/2 mile from UH,the Dunhams lived at 2277 Kamehameha Ave. also a 1/2 mile from UH while the Lefforge home was over 7 miles from the University.
At the time the Lefforge family consisted of Orland, his wife Thelma, their daughter Andrea (d.o.b. March 15, 1955 adopted by the Lefforges) their daughter Mia(d.o.b. 1959 adopted by the Lefforges) and son Scott (d.o.b. 1960). There is very little information to be found for the Lefforge family overall, I have more google hits for my own real name than there are for the Lefforge family!
As for your suggestion about Lefforge teaching Russian, there were supposedly two women who taught the Russian language class but the only student ever interviewed who took the course at UH was a student who took the course a few years after 1960. According to him the teacher would have been either Ella Lury Embree Wiswell or Isabella Tripianky. Ella Lury Wiswell retired from teaching at UH in 1968 and is listed in the faculty memorial as a French teacher(she had attended the Sorbonne in Paris) while the only mentions I have been able to locate for Isabella Tripianky are on a blog and in the excerpt of a book. I have found absolutely no former students of the 1960 Russian language class or at least none who have come forward.
