I see plenty of new and imaginative taxes and fees. What I
don't see is how many hundreds of worthless state programs are been cut or eliminated and how many state drones, er,
workers are being laid off.
Did I miss something in this "slash and burn" budget?

As part of his 2009-10 Executive Budget, Governor David A. Paterson today proposed the first increase to the basic welfare grant since 1990 to help assist those struggling in poverty during a time of unprecedented economic turmoil. Nearly 284,000 New York children receive Welfare benefits, which represents 57 percent of total recipients.

No cuts in retirement benefits either.
To: Gritty
the state govt workers including the teachers will continue to draw top pay and benefits and top pensions and benifits upon retirement......
why cut when you can just add taxes?
of course, they have no bones about cutting health care and hospitals......
everyone does know don't they that hospitals do not get paid what it costs to treat medicare and medicaid patients?......let alone charity care.....
