HONG KONG (AFP) Best-selling author Thomas Friedman on Tuesday praised Barack Obama's new energy team and said the next US president had to insist on a radical environmental agenda to tackle global warming.
Friedman, whose new book "Hot, Flat and Crowded" is a call-to-arms to reduce US dependency on oil and coal, said Obama's nomination of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Steven Chu as his new energy secretary was a "terrific" move.
He insisted that the challenge facing Obama required a revolutionary attitude to environmental policy, if the new administration wanted to avoid the devastating effects of global warming.
"We can do it if our next president, who I have great hopes for, is ready to be as radical as the moment we are in," Friedman, whose previous bestseller was "The World is Flat", told a lunch hosted by The Asia Society.
"Our next president is going to be called on to be more radical -- I am talking crazy, wild-hair, paint-on-your-face, ring-in-your-nose radical -- in what he does, than any president since FDR," he said, referring to Franklin D Roosevelt, US president during the 1930s depression and the Second World War.
"The real question I have is... will he have the courage of our crisis? I think our crisis is so deep that only truly radical behaviour will be required to get us out of it."

damn near anyone, including ‘radicals’, can win a prize these days, Pulitzer, Nobel, the WH, whatever..
Thomas Al-Friedman
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
it was -18 this morning in Minnesota. So if they get their way, it would be -25? Or can they guarantee that it’ll get cooler only in the dog days of summer and where the polar bears live?
I heard it was -29 in Denver too.. bbrrrrrr
Thomas Friedman knows everything about everything. Just ask him. He’ll tell you so, himself.
“....damn near anyone, including radicals, can win a prize these days, Pulitzer, Nobel, the WH, whatever..”

Not anyone.
If I for example, as a true, rock-ribbed conservative EyeGuy were to invent a simple 1 instillation drop to instantly cure all forms of blindness, I still wouldn’t get within a thousand parsecs of a silly old Nobel prize.
Why? If because of past accomplishments....please name ONE
"Our next president is going to be called on to be more radical -- I am talking crazy, wild-hair, paint-on-your-face, ring-in-your-nose radical -- in what he does, than any president since FDR,"
Oh, yeah. This is going to be just great.
“Friedman, whose new book “Hot, Flat and Crowded” is a call-to-arms to reduce US dependency on oil and coal..”
Friedman has been driven mad with global warming obsession.
Do I even have to say it?
I'm not making this up - Mark Levin discussed it on his radio show.

Most ALL these things are 'TRIBAL' and of the 'incest variety'............Even the once respected NOBEL .......
Freidman reads like he’s joined those very excitable ,unrequited-love types, like Christine Matthews,
who get all tingly in the leg at the very thought of what Obama “could” and “should” do to “change the world”.
It’s just pathetic.
It’s really unfortunate, for our sake, that there are so
people of moderate intelligence out there like Tom and Chris, who can’t control themselves ,or their rhetoric,
or apparently their homoerotically-charged hormones, and can’t resist putting their public forums at the service of this “agenda”, which
they will say needs a good decade or two to bear fruit, meanwhile emptying our wallets for a good decade or two.
And proving , after a good decade or two, to have been nothing but folly, cynical folly , promoted for nothing more than to distinguish the “Progressive” agenda from the “Conservative” Agenda.
Friedman married Ann Bucksbaum when he was 25 and became “part-owner” of BILLIONS.
Another out-of-touch writer.

From Wiki
Friedman’s wife, Ann, is a graduate of Stanford University and the London School of Economics. Her father, Matthew Bucksbaum, is the chairman of the board of General Growth Properties, the real estate development group that he co-founded with his brother in 1954. As of 2007, Forbes estimated the Bucksbaum family’s assets at $4.1 billion.
Ann and Thomas Friedman live in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. The July 2006 issue of Washingtonian reported that they own “a palatial 11,400-square-foot (1,060 m2) house, currently valued at $9.3 million, on a 7½-acre parcel
If Obama and politicians enact every one of the goofy “green” mandates that Friedman advocates, we’ll be a fourth-rate power in no time flat. No pun intended. I used to respected Friedman for supporting the war on Islamo-fascism, but he may have gone round the bend.
***Forbes estimated the Bucksbaum familys assets at $4.1 billion.***
I wonder if it was invested in Madoff’s “investments”. ;-)
“well be a fourth-rate power in no time flat.” Me thinks that’s part and parcel of the entire agenda.
Don’t care. His loss would not be my gain.
