That was not the case in my area- the WWII guys straight up told the Vietnam Vets that they “lost” and that “Vietnam wasn’t a real war” didn’t take much of that to keep the VV away from the Vet organizations. I saw this treatment at the Vets organizations- at the VA hospitals (employees and WWII patients) and on the street. It was BS pure and simple- but in my experience Vietnam Vets were not welcomed back- even by other Vets. I am giving the benefit of a doubt to the WWII guys that they were brainwashed by the media- but I have a real hard time giving them that benefit of doubt to tell the truth.
What I am seeing now is Vietnam Vets welcoming and supporting the newer Vets, they just don’t do it through the organiations in many cases.
The very same wannabees from high school became Chiefs, Sargents, First Lietenants through the years. They joined the VFW, worked their way into a Post commander position, then turned things into a political Peyton Place. Those with families looking to join and help out, become drones for the bigwigs, who run the operation like a personal fiefdom......least that is how it is at my Post. I pay my dues, go in once in a blue moon, but seldom if ever participate anymore. Back in the day, my family had their wakes, weddings, Christmas party, New Years party, karaoke night etc......no more. It is run like the Democrat party, money is squandered, pet projects funded, but the building fund never increases.
