Albany (Awl’Beny) is my hometown. If it costs money to merge, then don’t. If it saves money, then merge.

Read the article and every time you see the word "black" change the word to "white" and see if that would not ruffle some feathers if the shoe were on the other foot! Why do we not see the other college - Darton College - complaining!

Quote from the article - Harp, a white Republican from the Columbus, Ga., area, said his plan was about more than saving money -- it was also about tearing down what he called "the old vestiges of segregation": Darton College, he noted, was founded during the mid-1960s as a haven for white students. In 1966, the school's first year of operation, all of the 620 students enrolled at Darton were white, according to school records.

I am all for EQUALITY!!!!!!!! Joining the colleges does just that - ends the segregation and puts every one on equal footing. Reading this article, you get the feeling that somehow being segregated makes the college that more...um...special. Quote - "It's not that we don't want to be with other races,"... Just imagine if a white person said that and the implications it would have!!!!

"This isn't something you see every day... Blacks fighting FOR segregation... "

Oh, this has been going on for a long time...you never heard of the United Negro College Fund...of the "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" set?

Blacks were never that keen on integration anyway, IMHO. They just were not going to be denied access to white schools as they were perceived to be "better".

Looking around in our "diverse" society, in schools, workplaces, and even public forums, you will more often than not see the black workers/student migrating to group among themselves. I don't know the exact reason but it proves that people feel more comfortable around people most like themselves.

But, back to the schools...I personally will never (knowingly) contribute a cent to the United Negro College Fund so long as the "United Caucasian College Fund" is considered racist. Fairness is fairness.

We can't change the law, but we can vote with our dollars.
