Funny... every fatso I see orders diet soda... like it somehow makes up for all the rest of their over eating.

This bloated tick in my brother’s office brings a little carton of Ben & Jerry’s for lunch everyday and then complains about how he misses the bigger cartons he used to eat before he went on a diet.

"Nutritionist Susan Allen, RD, CCN, at Chicago’s Northwestern Center for Integrative Medicine,
suspects that something additional is going on in many of her patients who have been using aspartame and other artificial sweeteners.
Allen believes that when they consume them, the sweet taste of no-calorie sweeteners triggers their bodies to release insulin,
even though there is no food to feed the cells."

And insulin plays a significant role in fat storage.

Not to mention the fact that some artificial sweeteners break down into such "healthy"[not] substances as formaldehyde when digested.

Obesity is a cash-cow industry - and sweeteners, both real and artificial, put the moo(la) in that cow.

Tyranny of the Appetite.

I seriously wonder if there isn’t some causation to go along with that correlation.

It doesn't help anyway. The body still produces insulin, and drinking diet sodas actually lead to increased hunger and ultimately more eating.
