It has been years since I’ve even seen a copy of SoF, so my memories are hazy. I remember, out of the half dozen or so issues that I read, the reporting was interesting, thorough, and felt authentic.

I haven't read SOF for years either but their gun reviews were great , not just shill pieces for the manufacturers .

You need to reacquaint yourself with SOF. They have been giving the best coverage of anyone of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. (www.sofmag.com).

I picked up a copy for something to read at the laundromat, in '76 or '77, and was amazed. Rhodesia was big (in SoF) then, the reporting was so detailed, I didn't believe it was real. Ordered a Wooly Pully from an ad in back for $39.95 and wore it for ten years. Their USSR vs Afghanistan stories were it. Don't know why I haven't picked one up for so long. Judging from their past performance, I'd give this article a look.
