To: Conscience of a Conservative
So, in this case, which strikes at the heart of our democracy, why should we expect Fitzgerald to sit back and watch someone obtain a U.S. Senate seat through bribery/corruption?

You wait until the offer is given and accepted and then they all go to jail. No one would have come close to "obtaining" the seat.

But you don’t need that - seeking a bribe (and, in the case of “Senate Candidate #5,” apparently offering a bribe) is a crime in itself. What good would have come from waiting until there was an offer & acceptance?
