Although the general incompetence of Republicans must play some role in this, it seems the biggest threat to Obama’s presidency is coming from fellow Democrats.

Otherise, Obama doesn't have a clue but he knows these people are not beyond assassinating him.
It's all like "double secret double suspension" in "Animal House". The writers there were all from Chicago too, and they knew the system.
Blagojevich is presently a "loose cannon". He knows too much to be allowed to run around free, but at the same time, they can't just shoot him while he's still Governor. That's why they've started a campaign to protray him as mentally ill rather than dishonest to the core.
This is called the "Vince Foster" ploy.
It will come down that way and Blago is going to end up out in the middle of Grant Park ~ maybe his wife too.
