Mexico - Former Mexican President Vicente Fox described Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez as a "jackass" for opposing free markets, and considers that U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has to "set his feet on reality" regarding his commercial and immigration relationship with Mexico, the local press reported.
During a conference held at the Fox Center, a democracy-studies organization the former President established in the State of Guanajuato in central Mexico, Fox indicated that "the worst thing we can do is listen to those who are saying the market economy does not work, what that jackass Hugo Chávez is saying."
Fox, who was President of the country during the period of 2000-2006 and had a strong confrontation with Chávez which prompted the two to withdraw their ambassadors in each country, also described the Venezuelan government as "messianic".
He described the governments of Bolivia, Ecuador, and Nicaragua, which are all headed by leftist politicians, with the same adjective.
In that sense, he pointed out that, following the end of the dictatorships that isolated the Latin American region during the second half of the 20th century, there are now "shadows of concern" over the attempts of some of the leaders in the region "to modify the constitution to get re-elected," in a clear reference to Chávez, who is pushing for an amendment to his country's great charter to establish unlimited re-election.
Meanwhile, during the talk he held with a group of businessmen brought together by the IDN business consulting firm in San Francisco del Rincón, where the Fox Center is located, the former President stressed that Obama will have to "set [his] feet in reality....because he did not do so during the campaign."
He thus criticized the U.S. President-elect for questioning the North American Free Trade Agreement which links Mexico, the U.S., and Canada since 1994, since, in his judgement, "one of the greatest beneficiaries is precisely" the United States.
In addition, Fox stated that Obama "was not clear about the situation of immigrants either" and "the great value they have" to the American economy.
During his term, the former President sought in vain to promote a great immigration agreement with current U.S. President George W. Bush, but those plans were rejected by that country's Congress.
In addition, Fox stated that Obama “was not clear about the situation of immigrants either” and “the great value they have” to the American economy.

Nice try. You, with the help of your Manchurian Candidate, have been very successful at dumping YOUR POVERTY upon the American taxpayer and consumer.
What a crock. If we had a government that upheld the law, you would be toast because of your INABILITY TO MANAGE AND PROVIDE FOR YOUR OWN MISERABLE PEOPLE....
POS.
I agree with him calling Chavez a jackass. period.
Jackasses of the world are insulted by being compared to Chavez.
Not quite as delicious as King Juan Carlos saying, “¿Por qué no te callas?” but still good.
With the price of oil what it is now Venezuela is heading for a catastrophe. Jackass or not Chavez has run out of options.
It's odd that Fox would say that. When has Obama ever been anything but an open-borders liberal Democrat on immigration? Does Fox have some information we don't?
Back to Vicente Fox, who is a light-colored Mexican who appears to be of entirely European descent, criticizing Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales, two South American Indians who claim to be down for brown. He's quite correct about their economic stupidity, but people in Latin America aren't going to see this the same way most readers of this board would.
Gee what a damning statement from a man whose economic policy rallying cry was jobs in a foreign country. If Mexico were to find itself geographically located in Africa, Somalia would be the country Fox would aspire to.
All these Mexican politicians are suckled at the same multigenerational breasts of ignorance and avarice..

“Messianic”? Sounds like presidente Obama, no?
