It's a start.

I'm looking for the headlines to read:

U.S. Vice Adm. Bill Gortney told reporters that it is difficult to identify pirates, and the potential for killing innocent civilians "cannot be overestimated."

If they shot them off their pirate vessels, that wouldn't be a problem.

Most countries have a navy, so where are they?

Out to lunch.

Really, we have a choice. Crack down on these pirates now, or see piracy continue to spread all over the world. It's a very lucrative profession, and if they have nothing to fear, an awful lot of people will find it attractive. Act now, or pay a much bigger price later.

It is so dark here that the security are on outside and it is raining a good clip. Lots of snow on Kneeland Prairie just a few miles east of us. That is about 1,500 feet in elevation. We must have had a near record high tide today on Humboldt Bay..

Here the Commander of the INS Mysore greets an American counterpart, the Indian ship on the left.

1. They are both Indian ships: Mysore on the left, Brahmaputra class frigate on the right.

2. The Indian ship on the left is not the American counterpart of the Commander of the INS Mysore

India is coming of age in the world. We did it in 1802 or thereabouts.

That picture was probably shot during Malabar 04, a training exercise off the southwest coast of India held from Oct. 1-9, 2004. The USN commander may be the CO of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens CG 63.

“Wrap them in bacon first.”

...Then fry them..the screming should stop about 5 minutes before they are done. Then feed them to hogs. Definately video that and give to Al Jazeera.

Sorry — I hate these guys :)

Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, UK, Denmark, Malaysia, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the US all have vessels involved in detering acts of piracy in the region. Pakistan was also seeking to send vessels to the region. Not an easy task to monitor and actually catch the pirates in action. Think of all the fishing vessels and other small craft confusing the picture.

The Germans also thwarted an attack using a helo on Saturday.

Sounds like the Indian Navy is doing the heavy lifting against these pirates. Most countries have a navy, so where are they?

If they are, I applaud them. I am, however, getting a little suspicious of the stories of how the Indian Navy manages to take these pirates on so successfully while the world's major seapowers seem to be saying it's beyond them.

I hope my suspiscions are wrong, and they might be. Still...
