Tonite it's at its closest point in its elliptical orbit around earth - won't happen again at full moon until 2016. The Geminid meteor shower is also tonite.

I thought the geminids were earlier in the season.
Maybe I am thinking of the leonids. Those are in autumn.
The sky is washed out here from the lights of the air field :(
