Federal Sources: Fitzgerald Held Off Blagojevich Bust to Protect Obama Election Chances

A federal source of mine with ties to Chicago says that FBI agents had enough to prosecute corrupt, helmet-haired Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich back in June, when he was already engaged in some of the blackmail and extortion alleged by the FBI affidavit and other documents associated with his arrest and prosecution.

The source says that the FBI was suddenly ordered by the U.S. Attorney's Office--and I believe that order came from the top, ie., U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and Justice Department officials in Washington--to hold off on doing anything until after the election, so as not to hurt Obama's White House bid. Here's what my inside source says.

I know for a fact FBI Chicago had enough to indict Blagojevich in June. They were 2 weeks from indictment in June based on cooperation and testimony at the Stu Levine trial. Levine was Tony Rezko's bud, fund raiser for Blago, and our President-Elect.

Our new word for today is “coverup.” Can you say that?

I knew you could.

Coincidence?

Would like to know who made that call not to indict. And why.

All the rest is speculation here but Debbie does have a good story. Now let’s see if the media will dare to breathe a word of this.

Why was Fitzgerald held back and under who’s instruction?

This could get really ugly. And it may even cost Rahm his job. But I think Obama will go to bat for Rahm and try not to throw him under the bus. That will be Rahm’s main task. Throwing others under the bus on behalf of the self-anointed One.

I’m not a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination. But I’m under the impression that failing to report unbecoming conduct by another lawyer is not something that gets a person in trouble with the bar.

How do you fit Pres. Bush into this? DoJ is totally under the thumb of the Dems and their corrupt leaders.

My money is on Fitz announcing that he hasn’t enough evidence to prosecute Blago on any charge that he knows would implicate Obama or Emanuel but goes ahead on everything else.

Fitzgerald was extremely busy this summer with a follow-on investigation of Scooter Libby - specifically, he was following up a hot anonymous tip that Scooter had double-parked in front of the DC Courthouse. When he got there, all he saw was an actual two-wheeled scooter sitting there, not even near another car, but it was near a fire hydrant. Mr. Libby was exonerated, and Mr. Fitzgerald was then thankfully able to turn his attention to the more routine matters in Chicago.
