Somehow I missed that part? What was he trying to make the Tribune staff do (or not do)?
He basically wanted members of the Trib editorial staff fired in return for the Tribune Company getting financial help with the sale of Wrigley Field, as I understand it. Sam Zell (Trib Co. owner) was trying to avoid getting reamed for something like $100 million in taxes on the sale, and had negotiated some transfer arrangement with the state that would limit his tax burden; but when Blago got some negative editorial press in the Tribune, he threatened the deal unless the negative press stopped.
As politically liberal as journalists are, I imagine they react like mama bears when you threaten them. The Trib will be at the forefront of taking Blago down, and the rest of the media will gleefully follow behind like sharks on a blood trail. None of this, of course, will EVER lead back to The One. They’ll destroy Blago, and leave JJJ3 and The One unscathed.
