Unfortunate tupoe in the original story. It's Marin County, directly north of San Francisco. Home of Sausalito, Mill Valley, and a couple dozen other sanctimonious me-me-me greeny-lefty communities.

Except for San Rafael's Canal District, which in recent years has gone bronze to the gills, and Marin City, which is the county's token ghetto, Marin is as white-white-white la-la lib as it gets.
