Democrat Al Franken has launched a door-to-door campaign in Minnesota to gather affidavits from voters and use them to defeat GOP incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman.
Franken presented on Thursday 62 affidavits from Minnesota citizens who stated that their votes for Franken were improperly rejected. In past elections, such affidavits have all but forced election officials to count the votes in question.
Frankens maneuver comes on the eve of a crucial meeting of the five-member Canvassing Board to decide the fate of absentee ballots. Local election officials throughout the state ruled that more than 12,000 absentee ballots were incorrectly filled out or otherwise were invalid.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune characterized Frankens affidavits as the latest attempt by the campaign to increase the pressure on the board to count absentee ballots that were improperly rejected.
The Franken push includes a six-minute YouTube video portraying emotional appeals by voters who say their absentee ballots were improperly disqualified. One of the voters in the video is bedridden, another is recovering from heart surgery, and a third is a newly naturalized citizen who says he feels disenfranchised.
Coleman characterized the video as shameless exploitation intended to manipulate the elections outcome, and a new low in Minnesota politics.

yea the article is not very accurate.
Franken is not trying to get those 62 votes counted. He is using the 62 affidavits as evidence that the 2000 absentee ballots which were illegally rejected should be counted.
Don’t insult Kirby salesmen. My husband used to sell Kirbys.
Whiny, cry-baby loser. Enough said.
In the article, John Fund says that this is not illegal, but is unethical - fishing for votes for your candidate and ignoring any that may fall to your opponent. Completely slimy.
Kirby can't hold a candle to the old Electrolux canister vacuums. Electrolux really sucks!
“He can cherry pick. It is absurd on the face of it.”
That is why I am soooooo glad they stopped the ridiculous recount in Florida 2000.
Are you trying to compensate for something? :p
You won’t see Al Franken looking for military who’s absentee ballots got trashed because the Dems don’t like the way they vote.
Don’t think so.
Just curious. Are you Missouri Ozarks, or Arkansas Ozarks?
Remember 2000? 2001? On 9-10 the headlines in the NY Times was still meaningless Florida recounts and what-ifs.
MO.
The reason I was asking was because my husband was raised in northern Arkansas.
We have lived in a half dozen states. Got married here and always wanted to come back. After the Minnesota winter of 00-01, we made the decision to sell the snowmobiles and go south.
We needed the snowmobiles here in New Orleans yesterday.
I used to come to NO every winter for the big work boat show at the dome. Had dinner at the Bon Ton. Wonder if its still there ?
