Read the comments at the site. "Brittany" says that the robber who was killed was really a great guy. "Morgan" sums it up nicely, if he was such a great guy, why was he breaking in to a store at 3 am and then threatening to kill the owner?

If only 1% more robbers got shot and hopefully killed, I propose crime would go down 10% for each 1% in any given area.
Place your bets and load your guns.

Let’s see, our hero Ray jumped a guy who was holding a gun? Dumb crooks file.

"Brittany" says that the robber who was killed was really a great guy. I agree with Brittany - a dead thug is the very best kind of crook. He's a much better guy now that he's dead instead of robbing innocent people, and given the contrast I'll go with her "great".

In the comments, it appears that the robbers had Randy Willis on his knees, with a shotgun to his head, when he acted, was able to divert the shotgun, draw his own gun, kill one and wound the other.
I would call him a regular hero, though I am sure he would not think of himself that way.
He went against the grain that the MSM and socialist teach. He thought about the situation, reached a nasty conclusion, and had the guts to do something about it, even though quite a bit of risk was involved. He was not a sheep.

When Willis got there, deputies said he saw a man coming out of his store with a shotgun. Willis and the robber struggled, and deputies said Willis pulled out a pistol and shot the robber, killing him. Deputies said another robber, 52-year-old Arnold Ray Jr., had broken into the store. Ray jumped Willis, and Willis shot him as well
How can we get our language back?

I thought it said the second guy jumped him. I defer to your detail.

Good shooting by the story owner.
Bad guys/gal killed or in custody.
Another happy ending.

“I thought it said the second guy jumped him. I defer to your detail.”
The story did say that, but after he struggled with and shot the robber that was killed.
The detail comes from the comments at the link. I cannot vouch for their veracity.

Better: Store owner suspected of shooting two armed robbers who attacked him.

Ray is charged with breaking and entering, larceny, robbery and kidnapping. Did they forget 'felony murder', or does that just get charged in TV police dramas?

Then why would the guy jump him after he shot and killed the other? he should have run or assumed the begging position.

They also said a woman, Jean Holman, dropped the two men off. Maybe Britney was the woman driving the getaway car.

“Then why would the guy jump him after he shot and killed the other? he should have run or assumed the begging position.”
These situations often develop very rapidly, more complexly than newpaper accounts care to take the time to describe.
It sounded as though it went down like this:
Store owner sees suspicious activity at the store and investigates. He has a gun in his pocket but does not draw it. The robber with the shotgun gets the drop on him and orders him to his knees.
The other robber hearing the first call to him, comes to investigate. At this point the store owner, fearing he is to be executed, slaps aside the shotgun as he rises, struggling with the first robber. He manages to draw his pistol and shoot the robber he is struggling with, mortally wounding him. As this is going on, for perhaps two seconds, the second robber reaches the struggling pair as the first robber is shot. He is committed, so he continues the attack, but the store owner now has his pistol in his hand and is able to shoot and wound him and drive him off, in the next two seconds.
Total elapsed time from the decision to resist - maybe 4 seconds.

How can we get our language back?Apparently that's just the way people who write television copy were taught to write in journalism school.
And if you think the story is good you should see the fine examples of English composition in the comments section. I thought California schools were bad.

I will give you another possibility as well. The store owner struggles with and shoots the first robber. He is then standing over him, fixated on the man who was just threatening to kill him, when the second robber comes on the scene and seeing him preoccupied, thinks he can take him, and jumps him, only to find that it wasn't as easy as he thought, and gets shot for his felonious efforts.
