In these days of longer commutes and simmering tempers, nothing seems to set off already-testy motorists like the left-lane camper -- the guy or gal who drives in the passing lane and bars faster drivers from easily passing. Web sites have cropped up to educate other drivers, or to vent. There's a (somewhat painful) YouTube song called "Keep Right."
Even bigwigs get frustrated. Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell, weary of having his limo slowed down by such left-lane pokies, ordered an aide to have the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission install signs a few years ago reading "Keep Right, Pass Left. It's the Law."
And now some states are cracking down on left-lane campers, both to keep traffic moving and to tamp down the road rage that goes from zero-to-60 faster than ever before.
That's not just a pretext. Last year, a driver was arrested on Interstate 79 outside Pittsburgh after allegedly brandishing a semiautomatic pistol at a driver who was on his tail.

laws differ from state to state on this issue.....and if i want to do the max speed limit in the left lane i will put my cruise control on and drive there to avoid the exit/entrance ramps and you can pass me on the right if so choose to exceed the speed limit....
Odd that some of you arrogant @ssholes think it's your God given right to enforse the speedlimit while comfortable cruising in the right lane without one ounce of respect for other people.
Move it over or expect to see my SSR shoved up your @ss (and yes, I have insurance so go ahead and tap the brakes, makes me not one bit nervous)
I’ve recently been watching the show “Speeders” on TruTV. The other day I watched an episode that had the police officer pull over a car that was traveling to slow. He told the driver that the ticket for going to slow was actually about 2x as expensive as a ticket for going to fast.
The driver was struggling to find the local zoo, so he gave them a warning and told them directions to the zoo.
It's more a matter of being aware of others, common practice and common decency.
Should you feel like putting your cruise control on and driving there to avoid the exit/entrance ramps, you can expect to see the front end of my truck very large in your rear view mirror.
Be courteous and move your old @ss over.
hey think of it this way...i just may be saving your @aa from a speeding ticketthank you very much....and i do need the money so i wouldn’t get to close if i were you...see i am retiring soon and my 401k took a big hit....
Well suit yourself, just so you're aware that most of the other drivers on the road consider you one tremendous jerk.
Nobody asked you to save them from a ticket, it’s not your place. If you need the money, get on welfare or hit the early bird specials, that’s not our problem. Go ahead. One day you will piss off someone crazy enough to run your sanctimonious ass of the road.
You are a great example of the selfishness that is taking over this country.
YOU want to avoid the exit/entrance ramps, so YOU are going to drive in the left lane whether anyone can pass or not.
YOU have YOUR reasons for blocking the lane without considering the reasons someone might need to go faster than the speed limit.
“It must have been like shooting fish in a barrel for the CHIPs.”
More like shooting beavers in their dam!
and what valid reason is there for YOU to exceed said speed limit....don’t be the kettle calling the pot black now.....
LOL!
And a Merry Christmas to you, as well.
Why do you care? It’s none of your business. Get it?
You don't want to do that with me on the road.
You see, I'll come up behind you and politely blink my headlights at you.
If you don't move over into the right lane, I'll politely blink my headlights at you again.
If you still won't move over, I'll reach down and toggle my KC HiLites, flooding the cockpit of your car with 300,000 candlepower.
Then I'll back off and let you, quite blindly, meander off of the road and into the ditch or median.
Don't start crap. You don't know what other people will do to finish it.
of course there are left exits in CT and as you describe, a few places where there are so many exits both left and right that this entire conversation clearly would not apply.
The gripe here is on the open freeway where you find both (or all three) lanes all moving the same speed and no open lane remaining to pass because tatsinfla and his cousins all have their Continentals on cruise control in the left hand lane with the cute little dog riding in their lap.
It must have been like shooting fish in a barrel for the CHIPs.

Thanks for the great laugh.
actually you all have no sense of humor at all and that is whats wrong with is country....this all started with me asking a simple question....yesterday... i might add and then today i get attacked for asking it... by a couple of whotevers....no where until attacked today did i say that i drive in the left hand lane for my own convience...i have run across those people also....i was just trying to show that in some states the laws differ and truly wanted to know if they were complaining about the people doing 50 in the left lane in a 70 area or were they complaining about people doing the max speed limit or were the people they were wanting to pass already exceeding the speed limit themselves and they wanted to pass them exceeding it even more....the speed limit is there for a reason whether you are in the right center or left lane....but i know the laws do not apply to all....
i think its funny as hell that the one guy thinks i am old...drive a lincoln and have a dog in my lap....
and i believe that you sir have proven that you think the laws on speed limits do not apply to you....nuff said have a grand day....and lets be careful out there....
And the "Keep right except to pass" law is there for a reason too, whether you think the person passing you is speeding or not.
check the laws in all 50 states and get back to me on that would ya...
