Who will it be?
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Friday, October 17, 2008
Author: Michael Sneed, The Chicago Sun-Times
THE OBAMA CONFLICT?
Sneed hears Barack Obama wants an African American to fill his U.S. Senate seat if he wins the presidency.
- The upshot: U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. wants the spot.
- Hmmmm. That places Gov. Blagojevich , who is charged with selecting Obama s replacement, in a tricky place.
- To wit: Sneed hears Gov. Blago, who dismisses reports of a federal probe, wants to run for office again and believes replacing Barack with an African American is a smart political move. But he is being urged to select state Sen. Donne Trotter, a close friend of Obama mentor/Senate President Emil Jones, to fill the spot.
- Another dilemma: Sneed is also told U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, who is this/close to Obama and was a major Obama supporter from the get-go, is pitching to have state veteran affairs chief Tammy Duckworth fill Obama s spot, and had the ear of Gov. Blago until recently. Blago is also a big Duckworth fan.

Chicago Tribune (IL) - Friday, October 31, 2008
Author: Rick Pearson and Monique Garcia, TRIBUNE REPORTERS
Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Thursday cited the potential for bad karma and avoided discussing potential Senate successors to Barack Obama should the Democratic nominee win the White House, but acknowledged he has a process in mind for making the most important appointment of his career.
I just dont want to jinx him and I dont like the karma of me thinking that far ahead, Blagojevich said of Obama s prospects in Tuesdays election. The governor added, We have had some discussions about a process which well share ... if all goes well.

Sen. Madigan ?
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Friday, November 7, 2008
Author: Michael Sneed, The Chicago Sun-Times
TIPSVILLE . . .
The latest from Blagoville: Is Gov. Rod Blagojevich toying with tossing Barack Obamas U.S. Senate seat to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan , who wants Blagos job?
- Its his pick . . . and it would get rid of a rival.
- It may endear him to powerful House Speaker Mike Madigan , Lisa s dad, who is Blagos political foe.
- It would enable Gov. Blago to choose a new Illinois attorney general.
- Hmmm: Even though this sounds like looneyville . . . stay tuned.

On November 6, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with Spokesman. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Spokesman to leak to a particular columnist for the Chicago Sun- Times, that Senate Candidate 2 is in the running for the vacant Senate seat. According to ROD BLAGOJEVICH, by doing this, he wanted to send a message to the [President-elects] people, but did not want it known that the message was from ROD BLAGOJEVICH.

A review of this particular Sun Times column on November 7, 2008, indicates references to the specific language and arguments regarding Senate Candidate 2 as a potential candidate for the Senate seat, as discussed by ROD BLAGOJEVICH and Spokesman.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is "Candidate 2."
