That’s what I think to. Blago has got some choices to make. They had to get him first so that he can start plea dealing.
I think BHO and his whole team should be very nervous about what Blago may say to the feds. I don’t think this was done to protect BHO in any way, in fact I think it’s just the opposite. Getting Blago now will open up the door to start getting the dirt on BHO and his transition team.
I think you’re way too optimistic about this leading to Obama (in legal terms), but if so, here’s an entertaining if nightmarish scenario:
Remember that Rahm Emanuel was originally a big Bill Clinton guy..... suppose that Bill and Hillary were somehow able to scheme to get Obama to want Emanuel as his CofS without realizing the Clintons were the puppet-masters.
So Rahm Emanuel quietly arranges for other Obama advisers such as Valerie Jarret etc. to be go-betweens for Obama and Blago. Rahm keeps his own hands clean but subtly steers the process.
Further (bigger fantasy/nightmare here), imagine that Emanuel were working actively as a stealth Clinton agent to get Obama discredited and/or prosecuted and/or out of office, after one term if not sooner..... to clear the field for Hillary to run in 2012.... or even to be appointed VP if Biden ascends to the Presidency sooner.
How Machiavellian.....
