Once it isn't flying anymore there's no purpose in making the pilot die in the crash.
Exactly. You can bet this pilot's going to get the debriefing of a lifetime. Knowledge may be gained to help other pilots avoid such occurances in the future.
If the plane's no longer controllable, why take that information to the grave?
