Essentially they don’t understand because they think they are special. They think what happened to the Germans in the 30’s or the Russians under the Bolsheviks is the history of foreigners. They cannot see that the rule of law is all that keeps groups of armed thugs, or the howl of the mob from determining national policy.
“It can’t happen here and Obama couldn’t have gotten away with this.” They have no real reason for why Obama couldn’t have done this, and close their minds to Obama’s own relatives telling them that he did.
Obama himself could tell them flat out that he was born in Kenya, and they would still sit there telling the rest of us why making a fuss is Truther territory and counter-productive.
