Once Howie’s column goes up I’ll post it (if not tonight, then early tomorrow).

Noticed via Wikipedia that Howard Louis Carr Sr. died at the age of 103 on October 1 of this year.
I can’t remember if Howie mentioned it on air, though he may have taken a trip shortly after this
to N.C. for the funeral (Columbus Day weekend):

Howie has mentioned his parents from time to time on air; his Dad was about 47 years older than Howie
(born in 1905 while Howie Jr. was born in ‘52). Quite a long time to be on this Earth. I think Howie worked
for his father at a hotel down in Florida, for a time...

>> GREENSBORO - Mr. Howard Louis “Del” Carr, Sr., 103, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Wesley Long Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 13, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Mr. Carr was born in Portland, Maine, on January 11, 1905, and graduated from Portland High School in 1924. He spent most of his professional life in resort hotel management, along with service in the Army Air Force in World War II, and with Burlington Industries in the 1940’s.

Mr. Carr came out of retirement in 1977 to assist Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, Sr. of Greensboro, until Mr. Bryan’s death in 1995.

In recent years, Mr. Carr took great enjoyment in remaining active, going out to lunch almost every day in his wheelchair, accompanied by his son, Jonathan.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances; two sons, Jonathan Sutton Carr of Greensboro and Howard Louis Carr, Jr. of Wellesley, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Suzanna, Frances, Charlotte, Carolyn, and Christina.

(btw I believe the first two names mentioned are Howie’s kids from his first marriage. We’re familiar with the children he has with Kathy, Tina, Charlotte, and Carolyn...)

103 years old! He came out of retirement at 72 and worked until he was 90? Wow.
It sounds like Mr. Carr had a wonderful life.
May he rest in peace.
