CEDAR HILL Police said a Cedar Hill resident shot and killed a person attempting to break into a vehicle in his driveway Friday morning.
The gunfire erupted at 7:30 a.m. in the 9100 block of Sleepy Hollow, one of the city's nicest, most established neighborhoods.
Police said the homeowner heard an alarm going off on his pickup truck. He grabbed a gun, went outside, and opened fire when he saw the alleged burglar attempting to remove a stereo system.
The suspect died at the scene.
"This is extremely rare," said Cedar Hill spokesman Corky Brown. "This is a really quiet neighborhood like most of ours in Cedar Hill. It's very shocking to the neighbors to have something like this occur."
The names of the homeowner and the suspect have not been released.
The homeowner has not been arrested or charged at this point.
It’s Texas.
I guessed that from the headline.
God bless Texas.
“Its Texas.”
Ya gotta love Texas.
This is not going to go well for the shooter.
It is amazing how little detail or information can be found in the average modern news story. Pick up a newspaper from the 19th Century and a story like this would go on for several pages concluding with how the criminal got his "just deserves.".
Sure it will, he prevented his belongings from being stolen. You have a problem with shooting a thief to prevent theft?
Texas has a castle law. Justice is served.
Good if that happened more often we could leave our things unlocked and not worry about them.
Yup,
That’s one reason why they had so little looting in Galveston. If they had shot the first three or four in New Orleans, the looting would have stopped there too.
It’s Texas. You’re allowed to do that. A repo guy was killed a few years ago. It was a legal shooting under Texas law.
“This is not going to go well for the shooter.”
I don’t understand your comment. Here in Texas we have a Castle Law which provides for use of deadly force to protect property, including one’s vehicles. So, seems to me that this guy will be no-billed by the Cedar Hill Grand Jury for sure.
Wow. I guess the Repo guys will need to figure out a different way of taking the re-possessed property.
I think I’ll go buy me some more ammo today;)
The shooter will be fine, it's here in Texas ... where common sense still comes into play.
On the other hand, it really didn't go well for the perp.
I guess the Repo guys will need to figure out a different way of taking the re-possessed property................Yeah, it is real simple. All the grantor of the loan has to do is go before a judge and get an order to relinquish the property and be served by a deputy, thats how the law is supposed to work, not hiring a thief to steal it back in the dark of night.
It just makes clear the difference between a reporter and a journalist. A journalist is the "STAR" of the story anything that distracts from that is left out. A reporter is a witness who is supposed to present the fact to the reader which include the who, what, when, where, why and how of the event. Not many reporters around anymore.
Another good news story.
