Geologists say a discovery in a cave near Jerusalem suggests climate change may have caused the fall of the Roman and Byzantine Empires .... increasingly dry weather from A.D. 100 to A.D. 700 that coincided with the fall of both Roman and Byzantine rule in the region, the University of Wisconsin-Madison said Friday.Complete and utter nonsense. And it seems that these Geologists never had a History Class. (or passed one)
In 100 AD the 'Romans' were kicking butt wherever they went and the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) established in 395 AD lasted until 1453 AD.
Not that either didn't have problems with 'barbarians' or the Muslim hordes, but to say Globular Warming had any effect is moonbat cow poopy.
They had lead in their cups which killed off a lot of their leadership. For the last several centuries they had strict governmental controls on prices and production. If your dad was a blacksmith you were one too. They also had the islamic deathcult to contend with. There was no patent office or real freedom for people. Any climate change in a static society such as this would have only hastened an inevitable fall.
“The report will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Quaternary Research.”
....of course!...if you want to get published...if you want to get tenure....if you want to be promoted in the department...if you want to get a grant....ect ect....you must get on board the global warming express....it’s that simple.
LOL!! Yeah, especially if it talks to you: "Pssstt...hey,buddy...yeah you...commeer..."
Like a corkscrew, it'll turn on you every time.
LOL - what did the inanimate object tell you to ... uh, do?
Gee, And all this time I thought it was George Bush’s fault.
The Romans invented the first indoor swimming pool in Bath. It's still fed by the same hot spring. The runoff irrigated a nearby farm. It's made of stone and looked very welcoming on a hot day. If the cops and other people weren't around, we would have jumped in. We had soap, shaving cream, and smelly train feet.
“And all this time I thought it was Bush’s fault.”
It is. But you have to be as smart as Obama, Gore, or Cindy Sheehan to actually understand the causal relationship.
“I would guess Rome really fell from government over-spending, defunding their military for welfare spending, and a breakdown in the culture caused by assimilation failure. Climate change would be a real long shot.”
You beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing, minus the climate change line.
Nah it was the media. HBO cancelled it.
Wherever the Romans went, they built things. They had great engineers. They hired local people. Slaves were unreliable. I spent 3 years in Europe. Check it out. The reason you can drive as fast as you want on the autobahns and autopistas is because their foundation was made of Roman bricks. Very smooth blacktop. Made for a Lamborghini in 5th gear.
But it was the 7th century when they lost N.Africa, the Middle East, and Mesopotania to the Caliphate.
I would be more inclined to attribute dry weather to colder climate. I would be more interested in knowing the relationship to outbreaks of plague and climate shifts. To me, we are concentrating on the wrong problem. Back in the 90s there were outbreaks of Hanta virus in the Southwest. But, I suppose, eradicating a virus may be stepping on someone’s sacred cow.
Yeah they should have checked the air pressure on the tires of those chariots.
This article is nothing more then propaganda, pure BS.
How many cars were in Rome at that time?
Why would anyone think it necessary to determine climate change from 100 to 700 AD by “geochemical analysis of a stalagmite from Soreq Cave.” The Romans were the world’s most advanced civilization in those years. They knew how to write and did lots of it. They had many scientists advanced from their time. These people would not have observed and recorded their observations of climate change that was supposedly bringing down their empire?
