This is a conservative? Proposing MORE spending on social programs? We've entered the Age Of Obama early!

Once the oil runs out she’s going to need some tax dollars to pay for all of these wonderful programs!!

Maybe she needs to let the private sector fund this stuff. Whatever happened th the Thousand Points of Volunteer Light??? Do we really need a state program to hand out these goodies?

Some CONSERVATIVE!!! Let’s run her for president of Kukamongastaaahn!

>> new spending on areas like Head Start, obesity prevention, a test program of half-day preschool, and expanded Denali KidCare insurance

I really like Palin, and it’s really important America takes care of its kids, but on its face, this looks like ‘compassionate’ spending. In her defense, State level spending is certainly different than Federal.

Jindal voted for the child healthcare (SCHIP) while in Congress too. I don’t know what’s with these people and these programs.

I still relatively like Palin and Jindal, but I’ve said it before, Mark Sanford is porbably THE most conservative governor in the country in terms of fical resposibility and limited government. I’d vote for him above the other two.

5 million is awfully small change in the state budget scheme of things, even for a state as sparse as Alaska. In practical terms this is a minor photo op with children in the background.

For perspective, about 6 weeks ago Palin was talking about 40,000 million in new federal spending to expand the babysitting of retarded children.

Please don’t go down this road Sarah. I know the urge to be accepted by progressive thinking Republicans is tempting to all politicians, and the “for the children” thing makes you feel caring, but in the end, it is nothing but more wasteful big government, and there is nothing sophisticated or intellectual about it. Why don’t you pass a bill that legally makes parents the chief educators of their children, even if they are in public schools? Make parents responsible for the behavior of their children while they are in public schools, and mandate that all children are expected to exhibit good manners and respect for their teachers. Parents with children who don’t comply should be fined and subjected to public ridicule.

A lot of idealism over 5 million. Jefferson must be peeking in on the website.

I also recall on the video (correct me if i’m wrong as I watched earlier today), but she made several references to “personal responsibility”. I believe that addresses the issue of parents taking responsibility for their own kids if they are able to and not rely on the govt to solve all of their problems.

I too see no problem with these kind of manageable programs for children who actually need it. The problem with the govt (esp fed govt) is that they let these programs get taken advantage of and continue to grow out of control. I seem to remember that when Sarah took office, she curtailed or eliminated many wasteful programs. Now, /w a budget surplus, she can implement programs like this one, within reason.

I’ll admit I’m a huge Sarah supporter and that is why I will be watching her (as well as the other candidates — at least the ones that I support right now anyway) very closely the next several years.

We need the next Bob Dole of the GOP and a real conservative to boot......Governor Willard M. Romney for president.

Sarc......LOL.....

That’s the insiders plan for 2012 since Willard now occupies the Dole-McCain chair of being next in line.

Its just a question of what kind of candidates will be inserted to split votes away from Palin to help Romney win.

oil prices drop below $40 a barrel

Prudhoe crude is about $38. State budget was designed for $80 oil.
