By a more than 2:1 margin, Canadians call for another election if the choice faced by the Governor-General were between inviting Stephane Dion to form a government and hold a fresh general election weeks after the most recent one. That is the key finding from a national representative poll completed December 4, 2008. If an election were held today, Stephen Harper would win a large majority based on nation-wide support of 51% compared to 20% for the Liberals, 10% for the NDP, 6% for the Greens, and 8% for the Bloc. Harper would sweep seat-rich Ontario with 53% of the vote compared to 24% for the Liberals and 10% for the NDP in that province and would surpass Dion in Quebec with 32% of the vote compared to 19% for the Liberals and 35% for the Bloc.
Key factors in this lightening speed transformation of public opinion:
66% of Canadians oppose the Bloc Quebecois having a say in who forms the government;
48% have confidence in Stephen Harper as Prime Minister in the current economic climate compared to 14% for Michael Ignatieff in second place, 11% for NDP leader Jack Layton, 8% for Stephane Dion, 4% for Bob Rae, and 3% for Gilles Duceppe;
58% believe that the Coalition's real or main motivation was a power grab while 28% perceive the Opposition as honestly believing that Harper is a poor manager of the economy;
61% believe that the Liberals, following their drop in support in the October election, should not be trying to form a government.
I hope your conservatives can top 60+%.
Man, I am a political junkie, and We need a new Harper in the USA, not McCain& Co.
Under the Liberals we certainly had Socialism. Under Harper we are experiencing just the opposite. This is why the furious attacks by these three BOOBS who couldn’t get elected in their own right ever!! CO
We should let Quebec secede, they almost did in the mid 90s....somehow, they stayed. I’d rather have the West any day of the week then the blood sucking province of Quebec.
Done FRiend.
Welcome aboard.
I have been speaking to all kinds of people who normally have one thing in common....they don’t follow politics, but they are now, and they are MAD.
“We have enough trouble! We don’t need this now!”
and,
“I voted for the Liberals/NDP! Not the separatists!”
Harper is brilliant!

When the Liberals were a centrist party? - that must have been eons ago friend. Right from Trudeau on they have been very much left and getting worse. Chretien was the absolute limit. Corrupt, dishonest, so left he was probably meeting himself coming back. Dion is the same but not nearly as smart. Layton is a pathetic Socialist who doesn’t ever have a hope of having his party elected. CO
We did, but our conservative party didn't win more than half the seats in the House of Parliament.
All the opposition parties have tried to join together to vote out and out vote our party. As a single party, we had the most seats, but if they join together, they have more than us.
What Canadians are most angry about, is that this couldn't happen without the support of Quebec's separatist party, which means they will be the boys in charge in the back room.
No one wants them in charge.
I remember hearing that while they want to secede, they want a form of alimony from the rest of Canada. Meaning, they want to suck from the teat of taxpaying Canadians while maintaining their independence in policy, governance, and foreign affairs.
It’s like your teenage or twenty-something son or daughter telling you “you suck” or “I hate your guts a—hole” and threatening to walk out the door, but only if you give him his inheritance in advance and promise him a monthly stipend. All a normal person wants to do, of course, is slap the lad or gal silly.
What else can you expect from a bunch of frenchies? Durned frogs.

Are you kidding?
You have fraud, you have international intrigue, your decisions effect the whole world.(Thank God!)(The last one, not the first two)
Canadian politics usually put one to sleep. I admit we have an exciting moment from time to time, but compared to you folks?
No way. ;-)
Isn’t that what I said?
:-)
LOL. I'll remember to feel sorry for them as soon as they are no longer a threat.
How would you expect a sensible budget to look?
Weren’t the coalition looking for a 30B dollar bailout for Auto and Forestry?
I still worry they might try to bring him down, on Jan 26th.
