This year is set to be the coolest since 2000, according to a preliminary estimate of global average temperature that is due to be released next week by the Met Office. The global average for 2008 should come in close to 14.3C, which is 0.14C below the average temperature for 2001-07.
The relatively chilly temperatures compared with recent years are not evidence that global warming is slowing however, say climate scientists at the Met Office. "Absolutely not," said Dr Peter Stott, the manager of understanding and attributing climate change at the Met Office's Hadley Centre. "If we are going to understand climate change we need to look at long-term trends."
Prof Myles Allen at Oxford University who runs the climateprediction.net website, said he feared climate sceptics would overinterpret the figure. "You can bet your life there will be a lot of fuss about what a cold year it is. Actually no, its not been that cold a year, but the human memory is not very long, we are used to warm years," he said, "Even in the 80s [this year] would have felt like a warm year."

If catastrophic global warming theory (where 1/3 of one percent of the CO2 in the upper and middle atmosphere heats up the rest of the 99.75% of the middle and lower atmosphere and that air heats up the surface masses and that heats up the ocean masses) is STOPPED DEAD in its earth-destroying tracks by a little bit of ocean current ...
Then why did so much of the ocean's masses change temperature so suddenly in the first place?

I too noticed that since early this year, when the term 'global warming' became a punch line for so many jokes...the term 'climate change' became the operative term.
It rains too much...rains too little...no wind..severe winds...too hot...too cold...too little snow...too much snow...glaciers retreatiung...glaciers advancing...drought...floods... El Nino...La Nina...artic ice retreating...artic ice advancing...the warmest winter in Europe...the coldest winter in Europe...birds migrating...birds not migrating...worst season for hurricanes since 1933...fewest huricanes since 2006 (after 2005 predictions was for THE RECORD of hurricanes...warmest since 1917..coldest since 1978..
NOW, ALL can be addressed as 'climate change'.
Hmmmmm...my entire life...I've experienced the continuing four seasons with all associated weather patterns/weather deviatiosn...I just did not know it was 'climate change'. ;)
The AL Gore theory is that the elusive pockets of “global warming” are rising into the atmosphere thereby displacing cooler (cold) air which then sinks back to earth and causes the mere illusion of global cooling.
That wiley “global warming” air is hiding from scientists in the upper atmosphere, and tricking us into believing that it’s cold outside, when really all smart people like AlGore know that it’s actually HOT, and getting HOTTER!
