The odds of what I think will happen and the odds of what I’ll give you in a bet are two different things. I would place the odds of the Supreme Court taking this case somewhere on the order of 100,000,000:1. Obviously I can’t give you those kind of odds on a bet; I could never pay.

But you think I’m wrong about the odds, so I offered a fair number that I hoped would entice you to bet while ensuring that, no matter what dollar figure you choose, I’ll still be able to pay if I’m wrong. Seems fair to me.

I’ve also pointed you to an escrow site where if you doubt my word to send you a check, we can arrange for both of us to hold our money in escrow until Monday.

But this isn’t good enough for you. That’s fine. I get that you don’t want to bet—I wouldn’t take my bet, either. It’s a losing bet.

Ok, really—back to work.

***The odds of you being a loon are 1:1. And I’ll happily pay up against such odds. Submit yourself to the proper authorities and generate the paperwork, we’ll all see that you are a loon. Seems fair to me. Now, off to work for you. Loon.

100,000,000:1 odds, now those I will take. You put up whatever amount of money you are willing to, and I will match it in converse to those odds. So if you put up 10^6 dollars, I only need to put up one penny. See ya later, loon.
