Federal investigators recently made covert tape recordings of Gov. Rod Blagojevich in the most dramatic step yet in their corruption investigation of him and his administration, the Tribune has learned.
As part of this undercover effort, one of the governor's closest confidants and former aides cooperated with investigators, and that assistance helped lead to recordings of the governor and others, sources said.
The cooperation of John Wyma, 42, one of the state's most influential lobbyists, is the most stunning evidence yet that Blagojevich's once-tight inner circle appears to be collapsing under the pressure of myriad pay-to-play inquiries.
Wyma, Blagojevich's chief of staff when he was in Congress, has long been one of the few advisers trusted by Blagojevich and kept in the loop on matters of policy and politics. As the federal probe intensified, Wyma met privately with the governor and his former chief of staff at the governor's campaign headquarters on the North Side for 90 minutes on Oct. 22.

No, two for two. Jim Edgar had a scandal taint his administration some, but he was never in danger of any charges.
Yeah, Edgar was a class act. I wonder if he’d run again. He’s only 62.
I know nothing about this IL governor. Is he worse than that awful RINO, George Ryan, who let out the murderers? Knowing the people of IL and their lack of political knowledge, who would have guessed otherwise?
The last “conservative” that IL had was Dirksen unless you count Peter Fitzgerald’s one-term bailout. And Dirken would sell out conservatives just to get on LBJ’s good sides. The funniest thing he ever did though was shake his finger at Thomas E. Dewey at the 1952 convention. That was rare IL passion.
So...is Chicago Springfield North, or is Springfield Chicago South?
Sadly the rest of the country has caught up to the Chicago way of doing things.
...let's not forget the lemmings in the USA who vote for Democrats regardless of their qualifications.
OT: Meanwhile...
Obama goes upscale in Hawaii for Holiday

(They almost forgot to mention grandma at the end)
Blago will make it four. Three Democrats (Kerner, Walker, and Blagojevich) and one Republican (Ryan). Edgar was never charged with anything.
I hope Leo’s case in SCOTUS helps determine O in not legit and Fitzpatrick stays to clean up the sewer.
Geez, it's hard to care when it's scumbags ripping off dirtbags.
...a picture is worth a thousand words.
And they make the law
My question is - would it be better for Blago to hold on until 2010 (possibly with Obama’s help), giving the Republicans a chance in the next election??? IF the Repubs can come up with a good candidate, of course...
That would be a saving grace. Or at least a good start.
I live in the Quad Cities and I can tell you that since IL politics became Chicago centered we have suffered here. Well, that and we keep electing Dems who run unopposed in many races.
But all the money goes to Chicago pet projects and the rest of the state suffers.
It’s time for this POS to go.
ping!
have you seen this?
we can hope anyway...
Obama: What happen?
Blagojevich: Somebody set up us the audit.
Clerk: We get summons.
Obama: What!
Clerk: Computer screen turn on.
Blagojevich: Its you!!
IRS: How are you gentlemen!!
IRS: All your records are belong to us.
Wow! Did not know. . .
I hadn’t seen it!
Hopefully we see him do the perp walk real soon!
