The first paragraph wasn’t a clue?
“In the social circles of the New York Times editorialists, it’s OK to have one kid. Two is pushing the envelope. Three or more is déclassé, and a threat to the survival of the planet.”
Or the reference to the Times as the “Grey-but-barren Lady”?

If you have to explain something that obvious, the best course of action is to smile and back away slowly, keeping close watch on the person’s hands...

No. It only clues you in that this is a rant. A plausible one, at first, but a little digging makes you realize that Newsbusters is hypersensitive.
The end result is that someone - and it isn't the NYT - lost credibility as a result of this piece.

Mark Finkelstein is a nut. No-one is saying that SUVs and vans dont have a purpose, but the FACT is that SUVs and trucks have been abused how many people have you seen in NYC that just use these monsters to get from Queens to Jersey city? Like everything in life, it has a purpose. SUVs are great for outdoorsmen, farmers, hunters, rangers etc. But for city driving, small cars make the most sense. That really isn't the issue. What is important is who gets to decide what kind of car I drive, me or the government. Next it's how big a house I get to live in. Then how many kids I'm allowed to have. And on and on.

I've actually ridden in Trabants.
Even scarier was the Polish "
Maluch" - but the scariest of all was riding in the back seat of an original 1960's
Morris Mini. I felt like I was weaving through traffic while sitting on an invisible roller skate.
I spent a lot of time in Central and Eastern Europe.

Congress, hardly blameless in this crisis, must not allow that to happen. For starters, it must demand that the three companies top executives resign. Only new management can enforce the deep cultural change needed to overhaul the industry... Well, since the New York Times is also a failing business in a failing industry, shouldn't Congress demand that the New York Times' top executives resign? Surely only new management can enforce the deep cultural change needed to overhaul the newspaper industry...

...the Grey-but-barren Lady...Mark, the color is spelled "gray", not Grey, which is a name.

Kudos for your kiderrific Uncle Bernie and his vast contribution to the Republic -- and for his visionary smarts in zeroing in on the bulletproof Checker limo, the limo that won the Cold War, lol!
Those things lasted forever, and were a standing rebuke to the green-eyeshade managers of the Big Three. My correspondent told me just yesterday that David Halberstam, in The Reckoning (about the car industry's decline), tells how a Ford manager pistol-whipped a line manager's proposal for better paint by "proving" that it didn't add to Ford's bottom-line profit, to substitute the better paint.
And by the way, it was Robert S. MacNamara, official FDR-era "whiz kid" who brought you the Vietnamese War and the Edsel, who also brought that kind of manager to power at Ford.
The same kind that always ran GM.

Report me, too. I drive a gret big ole Dodge Ram PU. Full size. With a V8. Four door.
I love it. I’m giving it up when they pry my cold dead fingers from around the steering wheel.

Mark Finklestein may be a nut, but he sounds more like a nosey old woman leaning across a fence. I take you misread the title AND the article. Might want to go back and take another look-see...

When everyone was freaking out about the cost of gas, trading in their paid for SUV’s to take on a car payment for a car that gets better mileage, we traded in a mini-van for a conversion van. LOL! I was afraid to drive it at first but now I LOVE it! It is so comfortable and roomy. The kids argue less because they are not on top of each other.
These people that want to control everything are insane!
