OH B.S. I am sure he could have gotten a carry permit if he at least tried. Many high profile celebs get them and carry.

Most celebs hire bodyguards for protection. Burress had the money but was ignorant. Trying to go through a metal detector to get into a club with a handgun was clearly a lost fumble.

I never thought firearms possession would be an elite only privlege while Mr common citizen in New York has no personal protection, because he can’t afford to buy his 2nd Amendment rights. Yet most elitists have armed bodyguards.
Could they be afraid of criminals too?

Sure he could, but 3 1/2 years for excercizing a Constitutional Right. If it was a stiff fine, it is one thing, but mandatory jail time. He could have stabbed someone with a knife and not gotten time.

Or PB could’ve hired a guy licensed to carry. I don’t like NYS’s loony gun laws, either, but he still broke at least one. And so did the idiots who aided and abetted.

No, he can’t. There is absolutely no way for non-residents to get a NY City carry permit. It’s so bad that even NY non-NYC residents can’t even get a NYC permit.

This is an ideal RKBA case. There was simply no legal way for this upstanding citizen to exercise his 2nd Amendment rights.

Trust me: I spent years looking for “loopholes” in NY gun laws.

What other Constitutionally protected Right requires a permit before exercising? Or requires you to prove you are not a criminal via paperwork that violates two other Amendments?

I had a carry permit in NY City for 19 years. I first obtained it in 1980, and there were about 30,000 then. They were difficult to get, but I had a valid reason. I was also a resident of NYC. When Guiliani got in, he reduced the number to 3,000, and I could not renew (and keep this in mind: there has NEVER been an untoward incident with a legally carried handgun in NYC that I know of).

Living OUTSIDE of NYC, I do not think under the current administration that Plax would have had ANY chance of getting the carry permit. I now live in NJ, where carry permits are also impossible to obtain. I will move when I can.
