The disaster is how many crap tv shows are ON television.
WGN has an oldies Sunday lineup that is worth watching - I wish they’d pull out shows like McHale’s Navy, F-Troop, Hawaii 5-0, etc - but I realize they aren’t “politically correct”

“Everyone is praying that it won't happen, but the reality starts to sink in that there may be a strike,” one TV studio exec said.

Praying? Praying to whom, the purple spined dessert frog?

TV sucks.

I don't understand how this is a "Cable Networks DeathWatch". Per the article:
A SAG strike also could further cable's momentum. The cablers gained ratings ground this year because their series are produced in smaller batches throughout the year and thus were far less affected than those of the broadcast networks.

The world would be a better place if the lot of them went on permanent strike.

Once again SAG is biting the hands that feed them....but "Mother Hubbard's Cupboard" is starting to get bare.

Neither side can afford this strike.

is this about internet streaming again?

seems the producers are staging themselves to be able to jump to the next means of media delivery and teh performers want a piece of the the action, IF that is the case.

The real question is whether anyone will notice if the “ghetto” part of the dial has no viewers.

If Katie Couric does not perform for the nightly news, does the world continue to turn? day follow night?

WILL THE TIDES EBB AND FLOW IF THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES FAIL TO COMMAND THE SEAS TO DO SO?!!!!!
(/theatrical sarcasm off)

So where do you get that this is a Cable Networks deathwatch?
Cable channels shouldn’t be affected at all...except maybe they’ll get more viewers.

I have plenty of my favorite movies in the entertainment center just begging to be watched.

This doesn't bother me at all.

Today’s Wall Street Journal has an article on the same subject today. The slant they take is that authorization by the union rank & file is far from certain.

There is a 75% threshold for authorization and organized resistance to a “yes” is emerging.

The writer’s strike last year did a lot of damage to folks in the industry and I’d reckon that many are not anxious for a rerun this season.

On a personal note - so long as Turner Classic Movies is unaffected I am unaffected.

Don't worry about the Broadcasters on any Death Watch.. They are negotiating with cable operators and DBS providers on new contracts called Retransmission Consent which will force video providers to pay them huge fees for the privilege of carrying their signals. The cable and DBS subscribers will pay these fess and pass them on to you and I. 90% of all broadcasters are owned by huge companies and they have the right to force these fees on us. Thank your congressman for forcing you to pay for something that’s free over the air !!

Correctly, SAG is only concerned about its members’ welfare. It is neither concerned with my welfare nor the welfare of the rest of the “entertainment industry”.

Conversely, I have absolutely no responsibility to SAG nor those employed in the “entertainment industry”. My responsibility is to myself.

If SAG seeks to attain its goals through strike (thereby denying product to me, the consumer), I say; “strike”!

But I won't listen to their whining if they starve. Other entertainment product is available. If SAG shrinks the pie, I can and will purchase other pies.

I used to be an avid baseball fan back in the late 80’s into the early 90’s. Then during the early 90’s recession, the players went on strike. After that, I never went back to watching baseball.

Good timing, SAG — With so many folks losing their jobs right now, these scumbags are not going to get any sympathy from ordinary folks. I hope people stop watching the crap they put out.
