Chambliss Credits Palin With Firing Up Base
The Hill - Briefing Room Blog ^ | December 3, 2008 | Walter Alarkon

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), fresh off his win in Tuesday's runoff, said that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) excited the GOP base and helped persuade voters to go to the polls.

"Obviously, you want to peak on the last day, and we had John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Governor [Mitt] Romney and Rudy Giuliani, but Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite," Chambliss said on Fox News Wednesday. "We packed the houses everywhere we want. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up."

Chambliss, who defeated Democrat Jim Martin 57 percent to 43 percent, said that he thought that popularity of the former GOP vice presidential nominee would endure.

"I mean, I can't overstate the impact she had down here," he said. "All these folks did a great job coming in. They all allow you did us to add momentum to where we were in the campaign. But when she walks in a room, folks just explode.

Chambliss called her "a dynamic lady" and said that she had a "great future" in the party.

“The more they hate her, the more we love her.”

Said that to a woman who said Obama needed military support from a VP candidate but then just dumped overall hook, line and sinker. She then bought into the Alaska “investigation” and I said it was nonsense to put your hat on that.

I coined the above phrase and I’ll stick with that. Sarah needs time to learn the national/international issues as governors have a local focus to occupy them. We’ll see how she does next round but my guess is she will be formidable. A Jindal-Palin ticket really sounds interesting.

Yo dynachome, you are doomed to disappointment if you think the GOP will acknowledge that conservatives even exist. The GOP is now just another subset of the demrat party and should be absorbed by it.

Conservatives must create their own national political party to effectively oppose the left. With the defection of the GOP to the demrats, there is no effective two party system in this country any longer. A viable opposition party must be created.

So will Saxbys near death experience convince him that his Gang of 10 betrayal of the American people was indeed not forgotten by voters and that similar weasel tactics will not be appreciated? Probably not. He’ll revert to his RINO ways in pretty short order. But when he does, Palin should make another trip to Ga., expose Chambliss and recommend a true conservative for 2014!

I don’t want Sarah to run in 2012.

Obama is going to be tough to beat, I rather she run in 2016.

Peggy Noonan, David Frum, Brooks and the chattering class gang of faux conservatives have been “fearful” that the Dems want to make Sarah Palin the face of the Republican Party. Obviously, they are fearful of Republicans actually winning elections.

The media continuing it's lie that the Governor ONLY fires up the base.

Actually Chambliss said of her visit "it really did allow us to peak AND get our base fired up."

You don't peak if moderates are not excited too.

I’m hoping Saxby has learned something in this election - we’re conservative and don’t care much for RINOs. Johnny Isaakson needs to take note as well.

Tough to beat?

Haha forget 2012. In 2010 voters will be SO SICK of the Liberal tilt that we’ll win back Congress.

Obama will be a lame duck until 2012.. when he is defeated by Palin.

Conservatism always wins. Conservatism was not on the ballot in 2008. Unforunately people don’t vote for the VP.. they vote for the P.

When people ask me who I voted for, I say Palin. While I was in the booth, I covered up McCain's name with my finger and pulled the lever.

Where are all the daily media threads about Sarah dragging the party? Strangely silent today.

As is usually the case in victory, it was a combination of favorable circumstances. Saxby is a good candidate who ran a good, focused campaign with basically 2 messages: He’ll raise your taxes and I’ll cut them, and I am the last man to prevent a filibuster-proof majority. Martin is a poor candidate who is a total weenie and did not run a very good campaign. Third, the independent groups carpet bombed the state attacking Martin on taxes, guns, free labor, and filibuster-proof crazy dem majority. Fourth, without Obama on the ticket, the Democrats minority base did not show up in the same numbers as Nov. 4. Finally, Sara rocks.

It's crystal clear who the leader of the RNC is whether the RNC acknowledges it or not.

Sarah Palin is the people's pick.

She's one of the few with the courage and intelligence to be a true conservative.
