Roosevelt Saverino does not remember exactly what he was talking about with Lila Meizell that Wednesday night. He just remembers her saying "Don't hang up" because her landscaper was at the door.
When Meizell's phone abruptly hung up, Saverino knew something was wrong. He had his son call police.
Authorities found Meizell, 83, beaten and left for dead in her house, which was set afire. Yesterday, details of the killing were provided by prosecutors during a hearing in which District Judge William Simmons ordered three people held without bond.
Jose Alvarado, 37, Ramon Alvarado, 32, and Ana Lilian Rodas, 32, all of Silver Spring, face first-degree murder charges. The Alvarados are also charged with first-degree arson and Rodas with conspiracy to commit arson.
According to charging documents, the scheme began Nov. 19, when Jose Alvarado received a $75 check for landscaping he had done at Meizell's home in Wheaton. Jose Alvarado added two zeros to the check... He withdrew $7,500 after the check cleared.
Sometime later, he met with Rodas, his wife, and Ramon Alvarado, his cousin, to tell them what he had done.
At that meeting, prosecutors said, Ramon Alvarado offered to kill Meizell for $1,200, and Rodas suggested that they burn down her house to hide evidence.
On Nov. 26, the Alvarados drove a Dodge minivan to Wheaton, parking just down the street from Meizell's home. Jose Alvarado approached the door, asking for $43 Meizell owed him. After she handed Jose Alvarado a check, Ramon Alvarado attacked her, grabbing her throat and choking her as he forced his way into her house..

Amazing, isnt it, how the Post can tell us that the victim was Jewish, her boyfriend is Catholic, but it refuses to disclose that these subhuman vermin were illegals?
It is fascinating to read the comments posted after the article at WaPo. Typically the comments reflect the thinking of the Post's liberal audience. Today, most comments are anger at the Post for refusing to acknowledge the immigration status of the perps; pro-death penalty comments (amazing for the Post readership); and frustration at the failure of anyone to do something to stop this situation.

This should serve as a warning to whomever thinks they're getting a deal by employing scum like this.
Absolutely true, but we cant rule out that they told her they were legal and she was a naive little old lady who believed them.

Nothing about the perps’ illegal status in the Nov. 30 story on their arrest, either. They are just identified as “of Silver Spring”.
I read elsewhere that the judge ordered them held in part because “their immigration status is questionable.”
That’s one of the better euphemisms I’ve heard lately from the lib media.
I suspect the motive is to cover up the $7500 check fraud. He probably paid for the hit with her money.
Even if the phone call hangup hadn’t been suspicious, the landscapers would have been high on the suspect list. Build the fence!
Ramon A Alvarado on 5/27/2008 was ticketed by MCP for not having a seatbelt on a child, failing to display vehicle registration on demand and driving without a license and authorization but did have a Maryland driver’s license listed on the citation and MD tags the Chevy he was driving. Court date was on 11/07/2008, 19 days before he murdered for money, and failed to appear at court resulting in his drivers license being suspended.
Jose Antonio Alvarado on 11/15/2008 was ticketed by MCP, 11 days before he murdered for money, for giving false and fictitious name to an police officer while driving, attempting to elude police, reckless driving, running red lights, driving without insurance, failure to stay right of center WHILE DRUNK!!! He spent 1 day in jail and was set free 8 days before he murdered for money.
Jose Alvarado and Ana Rodas lived in a $450,000 house and are being sued by Montgomery Housing Partnership (ACORN style community affordable housing) for $2100 as of 09/21/2007.

I’m sure you don’t mean to blame the victim. It is incumbent upon all of us however, to make sure we do not contribute to financially incentivizing illegal immigration.
Make sure that the places you patronize do not employ illegal aliens and if you have work that needs to be done, don’t go to a day laborer site in search of cheap under-the-table workers.
A prominent family that most of you heard of [which I will not name] hired illegals to clean their house and tend to their landscaping. One day, one of them and a few others this family had never seen before was caught running through their house with arms full of loot.
Apparently the wife was not expected to be home when the burglary took place. Fortunately for her, they decided to keep running rather than exploit an opportunity to have their way with a blond haired, blue-eyed woman.
Is the objection to illegal immigration racial? No, my mother’s maiden name is Maldonado. My objection is, that no one should be allowed to cross our borders w/o being properly identified.
No only are we getting economic refugees and unskilled labor, we are getting criminals.
The only reason order is maintained in society is because the vast majority of people willingly comply with the laws and customs of the society. Illegal aliens, however, do not have the stake in society that will cause them to willingly comply. This is the problem.

...then it’s ok I guess.~sarc— Absolutely amazing where the emphasis is and why this makes a difference. I guess the writer thought that they had it coming. The attackers will be categorized as victims and how this kind of thing could be avoided if we’d just treat “Mexican friends” as human beings by giving them health care, college tuition and other free goodies.
