My thoughts:
#1:
If Dion wanted to show people he was up to running the country he didn’t do a very good job: his tape arrived hopelessly late and started such that his first words were missed (at least that’s what I saw/heard on the CBC Internet feed). Peter Mansbridge said it looked like it was shot by a cellphone and a YouTube video!
#2:
Harper asking the Governor General for prorogation tomorrow puts Michaelle Jean in a very tough spot. Refusing it would remind everyone they have a GG who (a) was a dual-national with French citizenship until compelled to give it up and (b) suspected of supporting Quebec sovereignty, etc., etc. OTOH a prorogation under these circumstances sets a heck of a precedent: any future PM facing defeat in the House could seek prorogation.
#3:
The coalition is very unstable and if prorogation is granted the Conservatives can bring the full weight of their monetary advantage to bear over the next month.
CTV saying the GG has agreed to Prorogue parliament.
