Actually, I don’t think the prospect of a coalition govt was even considered. I think many people in Canada fell for the campaign pitch to deny Conservatives a majority so there’d be a check and balance, not so a leftist coalition could be formed.
I thought it about when I noticed that Harper’s govt was a minority government. The Clark minority govt fell apart after months in 1980.
