U.S. Warned India in October of Potential Terror Attack NSA Now Tracking Captured Phones, U.S. Connections By RICHARD ESPOSITO, BRIAN ROSS and PIERRE THOMAS

U.S. intelligence agencies warned their Indian counterparts in mid-October of a potential attack "from the sea against hotels and business centers in Mumbai," a U.S. intelligence official tells ABCNews.com.
A second government source say specific locations, including the Taj hotel, were listed in the U.S. warning.
One month later, Nov. 18, Indian intelligence also intercepted a satellite phone call to a number in Pakistan known to be used by a leader of the terror group, Lashkar e Taiba, believed responsible for the weekend attack, Indian intelligence officials say.
The Indian intercept also revealed a possible sea-borne attack, the officials say.
The chairman of the company that owns the hotel, Ratan Tata, told CNN that security was temporarily increased following a warning.
Tata told CNN Sunday that the enhanced measurers were later eased and, in any case, "could not have stopped what took place."
Since Friday, U.S. intelligence agencies have been tracking the phones and SIM cards recovered by Indian authorities from the Mumbai terrorists leading to a "treasure trove" of leads in Pakistan and several possible connections to the United States, officials say.
Officials say one of the cell phone SIM cards may have been purchased in the United States but would not provide any more details because of the ongoing nature of the investigation.

You know that. I know that. I'm sure the intelligence folks know that. But that's not what the plain English of the article says, so I wonder if Brian Ross, et. al. know that.

You have to keep in mind that any story you read has probably been filtered through a peas-sized brain of some journalist. Most likely, the NSA is tracing any calls made from that phone in the past and the numbers called.
Well, not really one has to understand, that such a statement is designed for a reason...it is not an off-handed remark....I suggest that it is intended to reduce the enemies ability to communicate....and disrupt further attacks...just a thought
Actually, it is I who didn’t understand what was going on. The phones are apparently in custody of the authorities who are back-checking the call records.

I’m sure some of them are in Somalia, but I don’t believe their parents at all that every single one of them is there. Can a 16-year-old even get a passport without their parent’s help?

Anyone here remember the incident several years ago where a team or teams of Middle-Eastern looking men were traversing the country buying up cell phones and taking out the guts ?
From what has been reported here in the Twin Cities media, they were just gone, their families didn’t know where they were, and then the news surfaced about one local Somali man that had been a suicide bomber in Somalia.

Probably back tracking to see who was called. This is the NSA collection effort that the libs wanted to impeach Bush over.
They can also go back through archived recordings to check and see if any calls involved the phones in question.
