” Sorry, but daddy already signed that “right” away.”

Oh, crap. Here comes the “dead hand” doctrine - again. Our ancestors left Europe because of the “dead hand” dictates from Church and state that controlled land years after the original decree was made by prelates and lords long dead. Ever hear of serfs?

How many damn times do we need to refight these battles? What daddy did is not inherited by the son. The son has rights in his property - to use, to develop, to sub-divide, to farm, to sell. Daddy and the state already benefitted from the deal. If the state wants swamps for birds, let them negotiate with the present owner.

His dad sold the rights. Money traded hands and possibly became part of the estate the son inherited. Another way to look at this is the taxpayers bought the rights and now the son is stealing what is rightfully owned by the people.
