Considering the result of the election, it looks like much of young America could not care less about Bill Ayers or socialism. When I was a kid, most children old enough to talk to their parents knew what socialism was, because parents had to explain to their children about: the reason for fear among the adults; the Iron Curtain; the spread of Communism; the nuclear threat; why this Soviet guy was pounding his shoe on the table saying, “We will bury you!;” why we were having the drop-and-cover drills in school; and why Dad was receiving Civil Defense literature in the mail. Trouble is, the younger people in this country are more likely to feel threatened by money problems than by people out there that want us dead, dead, dead.
