The police in our town used to be fairly hands off when it came to protests, a part of the general liberal façade of Chapel Hill. So we had hoped to occupy that intersection for as long as possible, as has usually been possible in the past. We still, after all, had to smash the money piñata, read out the public death sentence for capitalism, and draw and quarter the capitalist effigy. But the effigy was to remain intact, as the pig with no further warning stopped his car, got out, and charged those of us in the back pushing the sound system.

Carrboro is a one-horse town. The cops know these grotters are wishing they were really rather in SF. They know these grotters are pretending to be big fish in a little pond. And, that victory exists in their own minds. But around these parts? Folks all around here know that Carrboro is place where bitter people go to ferment their bitterness and delusions.

Folks all over NC wish they could get the local "townhall" meetings of Carrboro - as it is a source of great amusement for rural folks all over North Carolina (which is mostly all rural).

Chapel Hill, OTOH, I still visit -- it reminds me of Lafayette or Orinda, CA.

It would totally crack up the FReepers of the San Francisco Bay Area to visit Chapel Hill. Imagine liberal ideology with a Southern twist ("All Hail Socialism, ma'am, and thank you for listening. Sir? Would you like some non-fat cream with your pie?"). Most the liberals I've met in Chapel Hill have been instilled with the Southern Manners of their upbringing.

Sounds about right for those Chapel Hill Toads. They were just as ignorant and obnoxious in the late 60’s when I went to NC State, even back then UNC was the party school for the red diaper babies, sounds like it hasn't changed much.
