Kindergarten Legislature: A Schwarzenegger sequel?

When Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the old "Kindergarten Cop" himself, accused the Legislature of acting like kindergarteners when the special session on the state's financial mess ended Tuesday in a rash of partisan name-calling and finger-pointing, he wasn't exactly being fair. The legislators were acting like politicians, who, unlike many 5-year-olds, really don't play well together.

Take, for example, the Democrats' plan to raise money to close the budget gap. Schwarzenegger, after years of opposing any new taxes, had finally admitted that cuts alone couldn't solve the problem and braved the outrage of his fellow Republicans by proposing a 1-1/2 cent boost in the state sales tax.

So, did the Democratic leaders recognize the governor's attempt at cooperation and try to work out a plan that would give him some leverage with the GOP members of the Legislature?

Nope. Instead, they proposed reinstating the entire vehicle license tax that Schwarzenegger, to the loud cheers of his Republican supporters, had cut the day he took office. It was a move designed not to move toward a compromise -- since there was no chance it was never going to pass -- but to embarrass Schwarzenegger by forcing him to essentially apologize for what he did in 2005.

--snip--

Of course, childishness knows no political party. When Schwarzenegger and the Legislature's Republicans talked about the need for an economic stimulus package, they might have found some room for agreement if they had focused on efforts to release some of California's bond money faster and get a quick start on many of the state infrastructure repair and construction projects already planned.

But they also included long-hoped-for calls to relax rules on employee overtime and lunch breaks and ease some environmental regulations, both guaranteed deal-breakers for Democrats.

“...admitted that cuts alone couldn’t solve the problem and braved the outrage of his fellow Republicans by proposing a 1-1/2 cent...”

Note the typical low SAT writing of the “journalist”. Cuts can solve the problem. If they had legislators with b**s and brains (very unlikely) they can find the cuts.

Idea 1: How much are you dhimmis paying for med care for illegals?
Idea 2: How much are you dhimmis paying for fake work related injuries?
Idea 3: How much are you dhimmis paying for state worker’s salaries?
Ad infinitum......
