It is however the priests duty to inform those in his parish that confession of this mortal sin is necessary before they receive Holy Communion.

I'm so proud of our clergy that had the backbone to stand firm on this issue. I fear however it has all come a little too late. I sent the good Fr. Illo a supportive email. Thank You for posting this article. We have to support those that stick their necks out for what's right. I hope the Holy Father is made aware of some of his clergy in this country that do not support church doctrine. I hope he removes them.

Sorry, a confession is not a confession without being contrite. No one I know who voted for him has any pangs of guilt.

This is somewhat surprising. I wonder if it can be shown that pro-Oprah’s Choice “Catholics” give very little to their church.

“..consider going to confession if they voted for Barack Obama..”
Even Obama catholics know that going to confession is not enough to receive forgiveness. Obama catholics also need to be sorry for their sorry vote and, even today, many still think that Obama is the right POTUS who will give them the much desired “change and hope”.
Some day, Obama catholics will have to go to confession to their children and ask them for forgiveness for causing them the grief they will be in.

"I wonder if it can be shown that pro-Oprahs Choice Catholics give very little to their church."FWIW, the US Catholic Church, of which I am a member, takes in about 13 billion dollars annually in donations and investments. That's quite a bit of money and somehow I don't think it's only conservative Catholics who donate. I think that trying to make a connection between the amount a person might donate weekly to their parish church and their vote for or against Obama is stretching it a bit. One does not necessarily hinge on the other Both liberal and conservative Catholics have been donating to the Church way longer than Obama has been on the scene. Politics does not always color everything.
