Gee, my Mom smoked and lived to be 91. I don’t think she would have wanted to be 105.

My mom died 11 years ago at age 57. She started smoking at age 13. Heavily at 18. Emphysema at age 50. Cancer and brain tumor at 57.

Smoking was one of the dumbest things I ever did. Quitting was one of the more intelligent decisions, though.

In the 20th century, collectivist governments (much like ours now), slaughtered more than 120 million of their citizens.

I wonder if the average time stolen from those people was greater than 14.5 years.

Smoking is harmful, but I suspect it affects diferent people differently. Some will get emphysema and some won’t and while it is harmful to all, many live long lives.

My mom died of cancer at 47, lived healthy, never smoked. Both my grandmothers smoked into their 80’s and died in their mid 90’s. One grandfather died of a heart attack early, the other in his 80’s, a pipe smoker.

There is no doubt that smoking is unhealthy, but how a study is conducted that determines how many years is taken from a life by smoking leaves me skeptical.

It is a legal activity that should be left to the adult’s discrimination.

And before all the health insurance issue arguments arise..over eating, riding motorcycles and just life in general is dangerous.

pah 14.5 years not in diapers, in filthy nursing homes, or wandering off and getting lost. Now I can’t speak for everyone but I’m perfectly content to pass on when I get very old say about 30.

As long as you lose it off the end and not out of the middle.... I mean... in my family the women live till 93. I’d better hurry up and start smoking if I want to avoid that.

Then you should quit doctor. Everyone knows about smoking. Stop worrying so much about what everyone else is doing. I'm sure skydivers live statistically shorter lives than non-skydivers. We all have free agency and know exactly what we are doing. I really hate that there are so many people in the country the want to be the nanny to everyone else. Sadly, many of them are in the GOP and have branded us all as people who are obsessed with what everyone else is doing.

Not really, it just seems that way. Women who are 30 who have smoked for 15 years appear to be 45. And women who smoke tend to have so many medical problems that they claim to be and to act dead at about 65.
